Having a son who served as a Marine greatly helps Hope Ware to provide support for other veterans. Ware, the veterans support coordinator for Llano County through Hill Country MHDD (Mental Health Development and Disabilities Services), helps veterans with services such as counseling, support groups and more. “My son was in the Marines for four years, and I lived with him for 15 months when he got back (from Afghanistan).
Lamar Smith, U.S. Representative of District 21, announced his retirement last week. He will not be seeking re-election in 2018. Smith is one of the longest running congressmen in history. What started as a controlled burn pile, blazed out of control last Thursday, in Johnson City. The fire ignited 85 acres of ranch land and jumped the Pedernales River before fire fighters could extinguish the blaze later that day. For the third consecutive year, the lady Eagles won the Bi-district Champion title and will move on to the Area playoff match. The lady Eagles traveled to Comfort, Texas, on Tuesday night to face Cole High School from San Antonio in the bi-district round of playoffs. They defeated the lady Cougars in four games scoring 25-13, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-19. Hailey Fox had 41 point assists during Tuesday’s playoff match.
Early voting is underway. While there are no local city or county issues up for vote, there are seven State propositions on the ballot this year. Playoff bound, lady Eagles closed the regular season with a win Tuesday night against the Lady Warriors from Ingram. They also defeated Gateway Preparatory school on Friday Oct. 20 on Senior night. Eagles vs. Gators The varsity Eagles won the final home match of the season against the Gateway Gators in four sets on Friday.
Johnson City hosted Rogers Friday night in a duel of the Eagles. After four quarters of high flying action, your Johnson City Eagles would be victorious with a final score of 28-20, JC. JC would struggle to gather momentum in the first quarter, giving up two touchdowns for 13 points. The spark would come early in the second quarter as Quarter Back Harris completed his first pass for a touchdown to Running Back Heinen.
On Monday, Oct. 9 the Johnson City School Board met for their monthly meeting. Superintendent Richard Kolek presented the District of Innovation plan. The board later approved the plan. Earlier this year, the School Board approved the proposal for Johnson City to become a district of innovation which went into effect in September.
After an upset in the first round of district, the Lady Eagles beat the Lady Panthers Tuesday for round two. The five set match was a high action win for the lady Eagles brought their district record to eight wins to two losses as they hold a ranking in the top 25. The match was an exciting back and forth.
