For Texas high school students in the SystemsGo STEM education program, this weekend is the the final exam as they try to launch rockets they designed and built for Rockets 2018, on Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Willow City, near Fredericksburg.
The vehicles will either boost a one-pound payload one mile high, or attempt to reach 13,000 feet and break the sound barrier.

The Mason High School UIL Academics Team won the 2A Region IV Championship on Saturday, April 14th, in Corpus Christi. This was the Mason’s third year in a row to win the contest. In addition, 10 of Mason’s students advanced to compete at the UIL State Tournament later this spring.
Starting the day, the Current Events Team of Zachary Norman, Zane Shoemaker, Pablo Lopez, and James Potts placed 1st overall in their contest.
Mason once again dominated the Regional tennis tournament in Corpus Christi winning four of the five divisions, winning second place in four divisions and third place in three others. Every player that participated in the regional tournament for Mason brought home some hardware. Mason won the boys singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles events while also placing second in boys doubles, mixed doubles and girls singles.
The Mason JV Softball girls kicked off their season in March with an outstanding win over Christoval, beating them 18-5. Munsell was pitching. With two strike outs and a great play by Fisher, Christoval only scored 1 run in the first inning. Munsell, Guice, Gleghorn, and Fisher all scored in the first inning when up to bat.
The Jr Punchers competed in the Puncher Open last Monday. Over all they played very well considering they have only been at practice for two weeks. This year, because of testing, we had to move their tournament schedule up two weeks.
Playing for the Punchers this year I have 15 boys; Cason Jacoby, Marques Harding, Coy Mock, Ivan Wofford, Derek Ontiveroz, John Finn, Travis Parker, Bryant Sanders and Joshua Morquecho participated in the Mason Invitational.

Six RBI Day For Aunnecy Elliott Seals The Deal In Mason Cowgirls Varsity’s Victory Over Eldorado
Aunnecy Elliott was clutch at the plate with runners on base on Friday, driving in six on three hits to lead Mason Cowgirls past Eldorado 21-7 on Friday. Elliott drove in runs on a single in the second, a single in the fourth, and a single in the fourth.
Mason Cowgirls earned the victory despite allowing Eldorado to score six runs in the third inning.
Mason’s Clint Lane, a Mason County 4H member, recently traveled to Tucson, AZ to compete in the National Sporting Clays Association’s 2018 US Open Sporting Clays Tournament and brought home a strong 2nd in his class. Competitors faced shooting clay targets in 35+ mph winds, with some gusts topping 60 mph.
More than 911 shooters representing 46 states and nine countries participated in the NSCA’s only US Open Tournament in 2018.

Dr. Horne will be administering physicals at the junior high and high school on May 8th and 10th.
These will be done during the athletic period and after school in the high school gym.
All incoming 7th, 9th, and 11th grade girls and boys will need a physical. Those interested in getting a physical need to make plans to be there on either of those days.
