On Thursday, August 9th, three Texas Boys State and three Bluebonnet Girls State attendees addressed a roomful of parents and family members, members of the American Legion Fort Mason Post 285 and the American Legion Auxiliary Fort Mason Unit 285, and other interested parties at the American Legion Post Hall.
Boys State and Girls State are among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students.
Shortly before the end of the 2017-2018 school year, a special presentation was held at Mason I.S.D. to announce the recipients of special awards and scholarships. Those results follow. The information is an abbreviated version of the script used by the presenters during the evening.

Mason County 4H member Marshall Marquart competed in the State 4H Shooting Competition on Friday July 13 at the Austin Rifle Club in Manor, TX. Marshall says he enters the State Competition each year because it is the only place to shoot pistols competitively. He has been competing at the state level for three years.
It was a hot weekend for both junior and adult tennis players as they competed in the Dr. Pepper/Tennis Outlet Open last weekend. The tournament drew over 385 entries and hosted players from all over Texas and beyond. Players battled the extreme temperatures and strong competition to try and win championships in their respective division.
Micah Walker, County Extension Agent for Mason County has announced the deadline to purchase Sheep and Goat Validation Tags as Friday, August 24 at 5 PM. Each tag is $15.00. Families wishing to show livestock at the major shows in Texas should purchase an ear tag by this deadline. Tags must be paid for at the time they are ordered.

The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on June 25, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Treg Hudson, Ryan Jordan and Kathryn Martin in attendance.
The Mason County 4H Club invites any interested families to learn more about 4H and the programs available to them on Wednesday, August 1st at 5:30 PM and Mason’s Historical Building, 505 Moody St.
At 5:30 a hot dog supper will be available as well as booths representing each project available in the Mason County 4H program.
Central Texas Electric Cooperative is helping the Hill Country Community Needs Council with their annual school supply drive by serving as a drop off location for donations.
“This program ensures that children in grades K-12 will have what they need when they start school,” a spokesman said “Please help us help children in need in our community.”
The drive will run until the end of July and supplies can be dropped off at CTEC.
This year we will host a Fundamental basketball camp for 3rd through 8th grade girls & boys. The Fundamental camp will be July 30--August 2 & will be from 1pm to noon. The cost for the Fundamental will be $50 per camper. Checks for the Fundamental Camp should be made out to Jeff Guice.
