The Mason County Livestock Show & Expo, LLC is hosting a fundraiser raffle in conjunction with their Fort Mason Cookoff and Wild West Extravaganza, scheduled for October 12-13 at Fort Mason Park. Proceeds from the fundraiser raffle and the October event will go toward showbarn facility improvements that benefit the security and safety of exhibitors, their families and the public.
The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is excited to announce that Children’s Storytime is returning! Storytime will be every Monday at 10:30 a.m. beginning September 10th. Storytime is for children ages 2-6, and a parent or caregiver must accompany the child. Our Storytime reader, Carol Lampman, recently joined our library family.

The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on August 6, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Treg Hudson, Ryan Jordan and Kathryn Martin in attendance. Tina Cantu-Navarro was absent.
The Hickory Underground Water Conservation District was proud to sponsor Isaiah Losoya, son of Taunya Ruffin, to attend this year’s 4-H Water Ambassador Camp. Isaiah is a senior this year at Brady High School. The 4-H2O Leadership Academy is an annual summer experience for high school students to learn about all the various aspects of water in Texas.
The United Way of Concho Valley has awarded the Mason Nutrition Program with a venture grant fund. In last week’s newspaper, the United Way article listed Mason County as one of fourteen counties that they provide services to. An application for funds was submitted and reviewed by United Way of the Concho Valley’s Board of Directors.
Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is underway for Kingdom Kids, River of Life’s Mom’s Day Out program. Kingdom Kids mission is to provide a loving, Christ-centered environment where children are nurtured and mother’s needs are met. Daily activities for children ages 3 months to 4 years old include Bible and age appropriate pre-school lessons, music time, crafts, and outside play plus added events throughout the school year. The Hill Country Memorial Immediate Care Clinics in Fredericksburg and Llano offer $25 physicals to middle- and high school student athletes. No appointment is necessary, and physical exams are first-come, first-served year-round. A parent or legal guardian must accompany children under age 18. The HCM Immediate Care Clinic in Fredericksburg is located across from the hospital at 1031 S.
Through the generous support of the Library Club of Menard, Menard High School debate competitors were able to participate in debate camp. Richard Colling of Forensic Files and Julian Erdmann of Speech and Debate Services were in Menard on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday August 3-5 to work with 4 Menard High School debaters and 4 Mason High School debaters.
The Mason County Library invites families with children and infants all the way through Pre-K to join us and be a Book Puncher! From August 2018 through August 2019, read just 100 books in that one year period. There are rewards for each 25 books completed during the year.
