Last week the Punchers traveled to San Saba to take on the Armadillos. The Punchers struck first with a quick score in the first quarter. San Saba was able to get a score right before half time to pull within 2 points. After half time the Punchers were able to score once more pushing their lead to 16-6.
7th grade The seventh grade Punchers came out with a win and shut out in their first appearance against San Saba, 14-0. The boys played well, there are some things we need to work on but overall they did a good job. Scoring for the seventh grade were Kalen Langehennig with a rushing touchdown, Carsten Hays with a rushing touchdown and Rayder Row with a 2 point conversion.

The Mason High School varsity cross country team put forth an excellent showing on Thursday, Sept. 10 when the Cowgirls had several runners place highly at the 2020 Jacob Krebs Invitational hosted by Harper High School. Although the Mason High School varsity football team got off to a superb start in their first road game of the season, the shorthanded Punchers struggled to keep up with Comfort High School in the second half as the host Bobcats pulled away to a 30-6 victory to drop the Punchers to 0-2 overall. The JV Punchers traveled to Comanche to take on the Indians last week. It started off a little slow and unpolished as the Punchers went into half time tied 0-0. We began to fix the little mistakes, scoring twice in the 3rd Quarter. Comanche was able to get one back though in the 4th, but it wasn’t enough. The final score was 14-8.

During the Mason/San Saba football game on September 11th, Fellowship of Christian Athlete Huddles from both schools will be competing in a friendly fund raising challenge. Each School will be taking donations at the gate during the first half of the game. The school who raises the most money, wins the challenge. After the game, each team will meet on the field to pray together and the winner will be awarded a plaque to signify the win.
The Mason High School girls’ varsity cross country team impressed for the second consecutive week on Wednesday, Sept. 2 when the Cowgirls placed first amongst eight schools at the Brownwood Invitational held at Gordon Wood Stadium. With 27 points and four runners placing in the top six, the Cowgirls were able to edge out Goldthwaite High School’s 34 points to win the meet. The Mason High School varsity football team opened its 2020 season at home on Friday, Aug. 28 at the Puncherdome against Comanche High School. Despite an outstanding effort by the Punchers’ defense to keep the Indians’ offense blanketed for a majority of the game, the Mason offense was unable to get things going in a 14-0 loss to Comanche.
