The Mason tennis program continued its historical sweep of state playoffs last week when they traveled to College Station for the finals playoffs. Coach Paul Smith has been in Austin with his wife, Michele, while they help with the recuperation of their daughter, Ellie, and was unable to provide a full detail of all the state play; but, that article, and the individual photos of the winners, will be in next week’s issue.
Mason County Habitat for Humanity has scheduled an informational program for prospective home applicants for its 2017 home build.
An overview of the application process, financial requirements, and new home ownership responsibilities will be discussed. The program will be held in the upstairs Community Room at Mason Bank on Wednesday, May 25th, at 6:30 PM.
All interested persons are invited to attend.
Mason Young Life is having its 5th Annual Car Wash to help send kids to camp. The car wash will be on Saturday May 28th, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., on the south side of the square. Please bring your cars, trucks, or even your dog and we’ll give them a good cleaning.
The car wash is by donation only to help send over 30 Mason high school students to Windy Gap, a Young Life camp near Weaverville, NC, from June 18th to 25th.

The members of the Fort Mason American Legion Post 285 and Ladies Auxiliary opened their meeting with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer. The pledge was led by Commander Lawrence Spell and a prayer was offered by Stanley Brown. The Legionnaires and Auxiliary members were honored to share this month’s meeting with the dedicated volunteers who place American flags on the graves of veterans in Mason County to commemorate Memorial Day.
At Region competition on April 21 in Corpus Christi, with ranks of 1,1,1 from the judges, the Mason One Act company earned the right to compete at the 90th UIL ONE ACT PLAY STATE CONTEST in Austin. Jackson Taylor was presented BEST ACTOR, Sara Powell and Pete Rochat earned All Star Cast and Steeley Smith and Kade Willimack were awarded Honorable Mention.
The 5th Annual Mason County Youth Rally was a roaring success this past February. If you weren’t there, you missed the big event that included over 150 of our youth and it seemed, about that many adults. The rally was kicked off by a sandwich meal provided by the Lutheran and Methodist Men.
The youth were divided up into teams and then they made flags and slogans for their teams.
The Mason Division of Emergency Management will conduct its monthly test of the emergency siren warning system at noon on Thursday May 5. The test should last from 1 to 3 minutes.
Monthly tests are to be conducted on the first Thursday of the month at noon, weather permitting.
The Board of Trustees of Mason ISD is pleased to introduce John Schumacher to the community of Mason. Mr. Schumacher was recently named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools and comes to Mason with many years of experience.
For the past two years, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Johnson City ISD.
Mason County Habitat for Humanity coordinators are happy to present the “Hye Society Wine Tasting Tour” as one of many fantastic live auction items for this year’s event on Saturday, May 14th. Chauffeur driven round-trip transportation will be provided for six people from the Mason Square to Hye any Saturday between August 1st & December 1st.
