Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden has been honored by the Texas Judicial Academy for going the extra mile to be prepared to handle his duties as county judge. Judge Bearden was inducted as a Fellow in the Texas Judicial Academy on March 30, 2016, at a reception in Lubbock, at the Overton Hotel, during the 2016 Spring Judicial Education Session. During the week of June 12th to June 18th, Kendra Klaerner, Steeley Smith and Justyn Tedder represented Mason, Mason County and Mason ISD at the 2016 American Legion Auxiliary’s 2016 Bluebonnet Girls State Program, held at Texas Lutheran University at Seguin. Their attendance was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Fort Mason Unit 285 here in Mason and their fees were underwritten by the generous donations of J.K.
A few weeks ago the congregation of Art UMC was saddened to learn that its Pastor, the Rev. John Alsbrooks, will be retiring effective June 30, 2016. Rev. Alsbrooks has been a Minister of the United Methodist Church for 23 years, but has only been Art’s Pastor for two years.
Thom Canfield, President of Mason Bank, is proud to announce new employees and promotions. Jennie Armes has been with the bank since 2002. She is a 2002 graduate of Angelo State University with a degree in Finance with Real Estate. In addition to her role as teller and Compliance Officer Jennie has now assumed the role of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Officer.
The Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the Hill Country Criminal Defense Lawyers Association invite Mason County residents to a special event on Friday, July 1st at 1:30 p.m. on the north steps of the Mason County Courthouse. Just as they did last year, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence on the steps.
I want to extend my warmest appreciation to those who have assisted me with two very large projects over the last six months. The first project involved a health fair at our local food pantry to provide an opportunity for the participants to learn of services available to them at no cost or low cost.
Mason County 4-H was represented at the 2016 Texas 4-H Roundup contest called “Share the Fun.” Kendra Klaerner, 4-H member and Junior from Mason ISD performed on Thursday, June 9 at the Rudder Complex on the campus of Texas A&M University. Kendra competed in the Musical/Instrumental category playing the piano piece “Waterfall” by Jon Schmidt. Emily Gimble, two-time winner of the Austin Music Awards (2012-2013) “Best Keyboards” will return to the Odeon theater in Mason, Texas Saturday July 9. Showtime is 7:00 PM. After interviewing five applicants, the Mason County Commissioners' Court voted to hire J.P. Murray as the new Road Administrator to replace retiring administrator, Squeaky Farmer. The Commissioners also voted to hire another Deputy Sheriff to begin work with the Mason County Sheriff’s Department. This position was created last year but has not been filled due to the negotiations with the City of Mason concerning the Inter-Local Law Enforcement Agreement.
The Scholarship Awards Ceremony for the class of 2016 was held on Thursday, May 19th at the Mason High School Auditorium. School Principal Chris Habecker welcomed the guests and thanked the organizations and individuals who make the scholarship opportunities available. Mr. Habecker said, “the students, parents, teachers, and community are forever grateful.
