The date for the 31st Mason County Republican Women’s Home Tour is set for April 8, 2017. The proceeds from the Tour will fund scholarships for graduating Mason County college or trade bound seniors. Each year community minded citizens graciously invite us into their homes or businesses in support of this scholarship Home Tour.
It was a great day to be at the ball park this past Saturday. The weather was perfect, food was amazing and it was good to see our youth on the fields having fun and competing. The Mason High School UIL Academic Team won the District 2A-27 Championship on Wednesday, 3/22, at San Saba High School. By the end of the meet, Mason had amassed 656.33 points, with San Saba High School coming in second with 418 points. In all, 32 different Mason students will advance to compete at the Regional Academic Meet in Corpus Christi on April 7-8.
KERRVILLE— The Cailloux Foundation (the Foundation) in Kerrville, Texas, has awarded 13 college scholarships to area students. The 2017 recipients have been chosen from high schools in Bandera, Barksdale- Nueces Canyon High School, Center Point, Comfort, Harper, Ingram, Kerrville- Tivy High School, Leakey, Mason, Rocksprings and Utopia. Awards are up to $14,000 per recipient annually and are for undergraduate study only.
Here we go again! Artists will be gathering in Mason for our annual Bloomin’ Arts Fest on Saturday, April 1st – no foolin’! Hill Country artists will be displaying their paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, pearls, fiber art, woodworking and more. While you’re moseyin’ around the square, venture down Broad Street for a tour of Mason’s 19th century historic Seaquist House.
Opening Day for Mason Youth Baseball and Softball is scheduled for this Saturday, March 25th. Please come out and enjoy a day at the park. Opening day ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. and first games start at 10 a.m. and will be played throughout the day. We will be serving your choice of BBQ brisket plate with beans, potato salad, bread, pickles and onions; sausage wrap or hotdog meals.
Mason Young Life is a non-profit organization working to introduce high school students to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. We will be sponsoring a fundraising opportunity for high school students throughout Mason to raise money for Young Life camp this summer! Young Life will be taking over 20 kids to Crooked Creek in Colorado. Students of multiple skill levels will be available from now until June for a wide variety of work.

Nearly half a million acres of the Texas Panhandle burned. Homes, barns and fences burned. Some lost livestock. Others lost their lives. Now that the fires are out, farmers, ranchers and landowners are working to rebuild. But they need help. “Some people lost everything,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said.
Rain couldn’t put a dampener on Mason’s tennis team as they travelled to Austin, back to Llano, back to Mason to capture the 2017 State 3A and Under Championships last Saturday. This was Mason’s 24th State Championship since team tennis started in 1982. Mason entered the tournament as the top seed followed by Brock, Wall, and Reagan County.
