AUSTIN, Texas—The Texas Historical Commission (THC) recognized the Mason County Historical Commission (CHC) with a Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for the 2016 year of service. We gathered on May 17th to present our annual wards and mark the end of our school year. The school initially thanked our faithful volunteers for their collective 1000+ hours of time spent helping here at the school! Mason County Habitat for Humanity’s Spring Benefit will be held this Saturday, May 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. The weather forecast for the day of the benefit is looking great (for a change) and the Habitat board is looking forward to hosting the event in a beautiful creek-side pecan grove on the McHale Ranch located just a few miles northwest of the Mason Square. The Mason FFA Chapter Banquet will be held Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. in the Mason School Cafeteria. The event will begin with a fajita supper provided by the FFA Chapter. The banquet will begin promptly at 5:30 pm and conclude around 7:00 pm Each year, Mason’s FFA officers’ conduct this program to thank their supporters and recognize the accomplishments of chapter members for the 2016-2017 school year.
Mason Independent School District had two At Large positions expiring this year. Elected to the Board were Katherine Martin with 365 votes and Jim Bob Smith receiving 491 votes -- the most among the four candidates running. The other candidates in the race were incumbent Chad Lemke with 245 votes and Willie Alba with 57 votes. In the Mason City Commission election, Vicki Enrigue received 72 votes, defeating incumbent William Beatty who received 52 votes.
Twenty-one players and alternates travelled to College Station last Thursday and Friday to compete at the UIL State Tennis Championships. Mason was represented in all five divisions and captured gold medals in four and brought home medals in all five. Mason captured gold in every division except the ever tough boy’s singles.
