The Mason County Historical Commission will hold its annual historical symposium this coming Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Richard P. Eckert Center. Because this is the 100th anniversary commemorating “The Great War”. America entered the war against Germany and the other Central Powers on April 6, 1918, the topic of this year’s article is “Mason Remembers WWI” and how the war affected Germans living in Texas at the time. Our guest speaker will be Dr.
In 1999, the Mason First United Methodist Church decided to embark on a challenging project which resulted in the creation of the Steady Steps early childhood and pre-K schools to provide both child care services, and learning opportunities in a Christian environment. Wisely, the decision was made to employ Margaret Persky, a Methodist minister, to be the first director.

Mason’s second annual Bluebonnet Choral Festival showcases performers from three states, two countries and Classical, Gospel, ethnic and popular music. Performances will be Thursday, April 20, 5:30 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Mason; Friday, April 21, 7 p.m., also at the church; and Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m., in Mason’s historic Odeon Theater.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team won the 2A Region IV Championship on Saturday, April 8th, in Corpus Christi. This was the second time in Mason’s history to win the Regional UIL Championship and MHS’s second year in a row to win the title. In addition, 12 of Mason’s students advanced to compete at the UIL State Tournament later this spring. Starting the day, the Current Events Team placed 2nd overall in their contest.
River of Life Church invites you to join us for our Easter worship services to celebrate the glory of Jesus Christ and the freedom we have through faith in Him! In preparation for Easter, we will have Passion Week (the week prior to Easter) services Monday through Friday from 7-8 p.m.
Hilda United Methodist Church invites everyone to its annual Easter Sunrise Service this coming Sunday at 7:00 a.m. (the sun will rise around 7:25 a.m.) in front of the John Brandenberger home on Loeffler Ln. Please bring folding chairs or blankets to sit on. Following the service will be a continental-style breakfast in the Hilda Fellowship Hall to which everyone is invited also. This Saturday, April 8, 2017, plan to be part of the Mason County Republican Women’s Home Tour. The hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with tickets available at each destination and also at Market Square. MCRW thanks each host and each participant for joining in helping raise money for scholarships.
Spring is in the air, wild flowers are popping and now it’s time to have some fun. Mark your calendars for April 8th & 9th as we’re going to have a good time. We start off with a Gun Show, silent auction and bake sale but then we add in a Bar-B-Q cook off, washer pitching tournament and community “Trades Days”.
Come to the square on Sunday, April 9th and bring your appetite! The Annual Hamburger Picnic will be held on the west side of the square under the awning of the Odeon Theater on Palm Sunday from 11-1. In addition to delicious hamburgers hot off the grill, guests will get a bag of chips and an ice cold soda for just $6.
