Dear Editor,
Llano Recycling Opportunities has a need for volunteers to help us with sorting and processing recyclables. The volume of recyclables is more than our workforce can manage.
Sorting recyclables is not hard, is a good form of exercise, a good way of learning how recyclables are processed and is good for the environment.
Dear Editor,
Recently my film crew and actors invaded Llano for several days and nights to produce our movie, Date From Hell, and you would not believe the reception we got from this town! From businesses to local citizens we were welcomed with open arms, despite additional nighttime traffic, bloodcurdling (on camera) screams, and a handful of out-of town filmmaker types. They were all more than accommodating and made getting this movie made a whole lot easier than it might have been.

Dear Editor,
How would you like to learn how our Llano Library came into existence?
Would like to see what is going on in our library now? How about looking into the future and see where our library is going?
You can do all that on May 3 at 6 p.m. at the library.
Dear Editor,
Law is not what is right, it is what has been decided by the legislative body of a government or society. In a democratic, free society, the “rightness” of a law finally devolves upon the people who choose the members of the legislative body – the voters.
As voters, it is our duty to put into our legislature those people who we believe will make laws which can be used by the justice system to rule in favor of what is “right.” We have such a system, but what comes ou ...
Dear Editor,
Dark skies are a good idea. Maybe I’m being selfish, but I would like to be able to look up at the night sky and see the Milky Way as I did when I was a child. The Milky Way is our home galaxy, folks. It’s 200,000 light years across and one of perhaps a trillion others in the universe.
Turning off some lights occasionally and aiming others, so that the light falls on the ground instead of going needlessly into space, will not be too expensive and might provide ...
Dear Editor,
I disagree with Rex Wootan’s comments regarding the dark skies initiative being “political and intellectually dishonest science by earth worshipers who want our society to move backwards toward a third world environment.”
I for one enjoy my dark skies over brightly lit areas, and prefer that people not install lights to illuminate their yards like it is daytime. I enjoy stepping outside in the evening, looking up at the sky, and seeing it more as God intended than ...
Dear Editor,
The Llano Recycling Opportunities lost a valued person on April, 1, 2018 with the passing of Robert Whitaker. We will miss him because of his unique smile when sorting recyclables and pride when giving a high five to signify a job well done. When pausing for a minute, we can honor you with a vision of your being at the sorting table working away.
Your co-workers and I had the honor of working side by side with you on a daily basis, thank you.
Dear Editor,
The foolish and ridiculous matter of attempting to return to dark skies has caused too many ignorant people in official positions to spend money that should have been spent on vastly more important matters. Specifically, this is frivolously wasting taxpayers money which has become an pandemic in way too many cities.
There is much written on this matter that is nothing more than political and intellectually dishonest science by earth worshipers who want our society to move bac ...
We buried our mother, Fran Merritt, on Saturday.
Her remains were placed right where they belong for eternity – next to Dad, W.F. ‘Skeeter’ Merritt, her husband of 61 years, and in the city cemetery of the favorite place Fran and Skeeter ever lived, the friendly and loving community of Llano, Texas.
That Llano became Mom and Dad’s homeplace for the last 20 and 25 years of their lives was either by chance or -- more likely -- the grace of God.
Fran had just started a career late ...
