On Sunday morning I took a drive on north Hwy. 16 looking at the many different kinds of wildflowers along the road and in the fields and creek beds. Llano is becoming a destination for people from all around the world for many different reasons, but it all revolves around our natural beauty, whether it be the hills, river, state parks, or wildflowers.
My wife and I attended our precinct's April 2019 town hall meeting in Buchanan Dam. We were pleased to see our commissioner, justice of the peace, constable, county judge, librarian, and a TxDOT engineer.
Attendees enjoyed cookies and bottled water whilst the officials answered their questions with an abundance of knowledge, transparency, and integrity; a demonstration of democracy at its best.
One hot-button issue discussed was the state-wide problem of skyrocketing pro ...
This is the wildflower extravaganza! Everywhere you go is filled with the beauty of the Hill Country's oaks, towering pecan trees, and a deep flowering layer of every color imaginable. There is flowing as far as you can see. No need to take any special drives; simply go outside. With our rainstorms that have been rolling through, they are nitrogen-rich and making seeds for their reproduction.
Nature is consistent in its continued restoration and making ready for next year.
We arrived through another storm with a substantial amount of rain for the garden. The rain has lots of nitrogen from the sky and the growth of the plants is just amazing. Let’s talk about one of my favorites—sweet potatoes. It is a definite regular meal for us. Sweet potatoes are not in the nightshade family as a regular Irish potato.
It seems like we can start a sentence each week with, “After a three month delay due to the October 16, 2018 flood, we are back on track.” This week is no different, but it is an exciting one to announce for sure. On Wednesday, April 17, at 11:30 a.m., the Llano Chamber of Commerce will join the City of Llano and TxDOT in officially opening the new sidewalk from town to the John L.
Yesterday was another excellent garden day. The red potatoes have grown tall, and the peach trees are full of tiny peaches and growing fast. Potatoes first— Their origins track to Peru and the extreme north of Bolivia. They were introduced to Europe the second half of the 16th century by the Spanish.
In my humble opinion, wild turkeys are the crappie of the hunting world. At times, such as when crappie gang up in large numbers in the shallows to spawn, they can be ridiculously easy to catch but much of the time, they are one of the more challenging fish to pattern, likewise with turkeys.
I have taken first time turkey hunters out in past years when the gobblers would come running to anything that remotely sounded like a hen turkey.
Burnet is booming in a lot of ways, especially economically. The Burnet Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), along with the City of Burnet and other partners, can be very proud of their accomplishments, as well as their plans for additional development. Oftentimes, citizens see the results of this type of work but may not be aware of the many months, or even years, that are invested in making these things happen; not to mention the dollars that it takes to do so.
An example is the ribbo ...
Toni:
I am turning 65 in July and am an insulin dependent diabetic. I take two insulins which are rather expensive. I am concerned about the Part D Donut Hole because I’ve seen my husband struggle with his current choice.
Last year, my husband Steve changed from his Medicare Supplement Plan with a separate Part D plan to a Medicare Advantage PPO plan. He was told that his doctors were in the plan and all of my husband’s heart meds were covered.
As big a fan as I am of Tiger, I admit I never thought he would win another Major. Not because he couldn’t shoot a fine 72-hole score, but either a great name or week to week also-ran could brew a 20-under card and beat him.
The competition, which becomes more enriched in each era, is so good, first names will almost suffice: Rory, Dustin, Justin (Rose and Thomas), Brooks, Jordan (and his game will return), Xander and Francesco.
