Ron Cunningham is certainly the man to beat in Llano County electoral politics in 2018. Cunningham completed a rare feat as he won his second electoral race of the year on Saturday, returning to the Llano ISD board of trustees in Place 5 with a win over challenger Dean Campbell. Cunningham won 298 to 262.
Many decades ago, people were concerned about how to meet their responsibilities in helping unfortunate children. Dedicated Christians in Abilene expressed an interest in a home for these children. It was pioneers like B.A. Hays, J.E. Epperson, Hilly Walker, and others who made the dream come true. In the mid-1950s, it became apparent that there were few provisions for assistance to the Mexican-American child.
The City of Llano received a clean audit for Fiscal Year 2017. Keith Neffendorff, of the firm Neffendorff & Knopp, PC, told councilors at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting that it was a “good, clean” audit of the city’s fiscal position. He said the unqualified opinion is the best that can be given and means everything is in good order. He reported that as of Sept.
A local screenwriter got her screen time last weekend. That usually refers to having some face time on the big screen, as in acting, but in this case, however, writer Tracee Beebe’s screenplay saw some screen time last weekend at the Hill Country Film Festival in Fredericksburg. In 2017, the Corpus Christi Film Commission created a screenwriting competition with certain parameters requiring the play to use certain iconic Corpus Christi locations to promote the town as a great film locat ...
The 17th Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) held its biennial legislative session from April 23-26 at the State Capitol. He said the group works from morning into late night during its time in Austin. The TSHL holds these sessions in the years that the Texas Legislature is in recess.
Llano Community Theatre, now in its third season, kicked off its latest performance last weekend with three shows. Without going too much into the show, it runs again this Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. The musical comedy lived up to its billing, and was a huge hit to all three audiences, with standing ovations each day. The show starts off with the entire cast on stage dancing and singing the song, “Something Funny’s Going On.” When it happens, a murder sets the stage for ...
So do you want to be in the movies? Now is your chance! Date from Hell is filming in and around Llano this weekend, so if you hear some screaming in the wee hours of the night, don’t panic-- it’s likely just a movie! An original screenplay by Ven Scott, and polished by local screenwriter Tracee Beebe, Date from Hell, is a horror movie about a young couple in a small town (that looks a lot like Llano) who are on a date when they get into a bit of trouble with a drifter -- except this s ...
The future doesn’t begin for Llano High athletes in high school. It starts, for some, in elementary school and adds adrenaline in junior high. That’s where our story resides, because 7th grade coach, Sylvia Arms, has been named Junior High Coach of the Year, Class 4A, in Texas, by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. “Coach Arms is an outstanding teacher/coach,” declared middle school Athletic Coordinator, Russell Rabb.

There was 18,000 pounds of crawfish, a huge crowd, live music, team roping, golf, a motorcycle run, and a 5K walk/run -- that is what was advertised about the 29th annual Llano Crawfish Open. It started Thursday at the Llano golf course, and about the same time, inside the John L Kuykendall Arena.
Bond takes in monuments through Honor Flight Austin
Bands played. Crowds waved and clapped. People gave hugs, and also shook hands. It was a patriotic festival at airports in Austin and Washington, D.C., as those traveling with Honor Flight Austin were greeted in style. They toured the nation’s memorials, monuments and more in Washington, D.C. James Bond of Llano, a World War II veteran, was among those who toured the nation’s capital over the weekend. “I enjoyed the whole thing.
