There’s a new valedictorian in town, and his name is Chance Bailey. It seems the Bailey family prefers Texas A&M, so there was really no doubt Bailey would wind up anything other than an Aggie. After all, his mother, aunt and brother, Levi, all graduated from A&M, and he wants to carry on the family tradition. Chance is a math whiz, but you may already know that.
Katie Clausen is an all-star. Not only did she graduate as salutatorian, but she did it in three years. When she moved to Llano in sixth grade, it was the first time that she could choose classes; she liked that--and realized she could actually start planning ahead--even then. By junior high, she was already challenging herself, signing up for AP classes with her college agenda in mind. And where did that agenda come from, at such a young age?
Llano High School was home to something special on Saturday as Wildflower Dance Studio brought three hours of Jazz and Dance entertainment, and the Little Mermaid. Not a typical event for Llano, well, after four years in town, it is getting to be more of a routine for a town already known for its visual and musical arts.
Two races. Two school records. Two terrific 200s. Two wins in each postseason event. Two State Championships. Two good. Two words: Anna Casey. The freshman has galloped into Llano High School history. She was simply better than some of us thought. Me of little faith. “Best feeling ever,” Anna told reporters.
Joe Buck Simpson (L) and Russell Rabb are the 2018 “Jackets for Life,” one of Llano ISD’s most prestigious awards. Both graduated from Llano High and have made significant professional contributions to the school and community.
The Llano County Commissioners held a lengthy discussion with citizen Fred Ganske about frustration with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and its insistence on using arcane parameters in the latest flood plain for Llano County. Ganske appealed to FEMA twice, but did not receive a positive response regarding his home in western Llano County being placed in the flood plain.
It started out as a fun night of dinner and theater inside the family life center at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church, but soon turned into chaos. Unknown to those in attendance, there was a criminal in their midst that would soon be found and taken to trial. As dinner was winding down, guests were beginning to mingle with laughter in the air, when Llano County Constable Joe Simpson walked in with a warrant for the arrest of Jess Goodnuff, who was sitting in the back of the ro ...
The 2017-18 spelling bee winners at Llano Christian Academy are as follows: Kindergarten - Salena Oestreich; First Grade - Whitman Leverett; Second Grade - Brady Palermo; Third Grade - Gunner Todd; Fourth Grade - McKya Jones; and Fifth Grade - Madi Chaney and Zane Todd.
George Birck was named the 2018 Cowboy of the Year on Saturday at the Hill Country Livestock Raisers Association’s annual banquet. Birck was born July 11, 1939 to Christian and Lydia Birck at home in Round Mountain. George grew up helping out around the home.  As a small kid his chores where to milk the cow, gather the eggs and chop kindling for the wood stove that was cooked on and to heat water up for their baths in a number 3 wash tub.
Ian Fletcher, left, and Morgan Thibodeaux, were crowned King and Queen of Llano High School’s 2018 prom on Saturday night in Horseshoe Bay.
