LBJ High School is hosting a coffee for area businesses who may be interested in hiring a student intern through the campuses’ new Work-Based Learning Program this fall. Johnson City traveled to San Antonio to take on the Lady Beavers from Falls City last week and came home with a Bi District title. The Lady Eagles started slow but scored in every inning after the first frame and won by way of the ten run rule, 13-2. Emily Matjeka continued her dominance on the mound only allowing two runs, giving up five hits and striking out 6.
Congratulations to the Blanco County 4-H Shooting Education shooters who participated in the Texas State BB Gun Championship that was held in New Caney, Texas on March 12. 15 shooters and coaches represented Blanco County including: Back Row Left to Right: Donnie Sprouse (Coach), Shannon Sultemeier (Coach), Chris Welch (Coach), Dakota Metcalf, Reid Sultemeier, Degan Roy, Cody Sprouse, Keen Linson, Adrianna Mayes and Heath Eckenrode.
The JCISD School Board met on March 7, 2016 for their regularly scheduled meeting and all board members were present. No one spoke during open forum. Dr. Noel Landuyt from the Institute for Organizational Excellence at UT Austin was present to provide the Board information on the Survey of Employee Engagement that was sent to all JCISD staff in the fall of 2015.
On Saturday, March 26th, the Youth Municipal Advisory Council will be breaking ground on the new community garden. The garden will be placed to the left and in front of the public softball fields in the Johnson City park. Produce such as squash, tomatoes, peppers and more will be planted as the first crops in the community garden. The garden will be a 30 by 70 foot space, with various rows running length wise.
The Lady Eagles hosted the Blanco County Tournament and showed that they can compete with the big schools in the surrounding area. They Lady Eagles went 2-2-1 in the tournament and tied for third. The Lady Eagles opened up the tournament against Llano and picked up their first victory of the day.
The Johnson City Eagles had a good week, going 2-1 at the Hill Country Classic in Llano and defeating the Armadillos from San Saba. The Eagles opened up the Hill Country Classic against San Angelo Central’s JV. The Eagles fell behind 4-0 after 1 inning, but would come alive in the second inning and score 6 runs to the Bobcats 1, making the score 6-5.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Comfort Thursday night and competed against much larger schools and showed that they can run, jump and throw with anyone. The Varsity Boys finished 5th out of ten teams. The JV Team also finished 5th. Winning individual medals were Blake Caulkins 3rd in the 100 meter dash.
The 7th and 8th grade girls competed in the Comfort Ribbon Relays last Friday, March 4th. These ladies all compete as an 8th grade team and did very well in their first track meet of the year. JOHNSON CITY—A fine opening day, February 18, for the softball Eagles, who took a huge lead and held it against Llano.
