Kaitlyn Arvesen, Lyndon B. Johnson High School Senior, has a perfect record when it comes to the Texas All-State Band. For the fourth year in a row, she has advanced to the State level in the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) band competition and earned a spot in the All-State Band. Coach Lewis Jenkins knew the task at hand last week would be a difficult one, having to face a hot Blanco team in Blanco and hosting a Comfort team just one game behind the Eagles in district standings. The Eagles split claiming one win and a defeat, but remain on top of the district standings.
The Johnson City Lady Eagles had a difficult week, facing two of the top teams in their district. Coach Katy Taylor knew the task would be tough, but she is extremely proud of the way her young Lady Eagles have competed this season. The Lady Eagles headed south down 281 12 miles Tuesday and took on the Lady Panthers from Blanco.
Several of the Blanco County youth participated in the Lamb and Goat Show at the Hill Country District Livestock Show in Kerrville on January 19-20. This show is the 5th largest in the state. Blanco County was well represented with several of them placing in the top 10. Only the top three placing animals in each class make the sale.
The Blanco County Pioneers Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) is calling on all Blanco County fourth and seventh grade students to submit essays for the annual Texas History Essay Contest. Local contest winners in each category will receive cash awards of $100 dollars for first place and $50 for second place submissions.
The Lady Eagle 7th and 8th grade girls took on the Lady Buffaloes from Florence in basketball action Monday January 19.They also faced Lady Panthers from Blanco on January 26. Florence Buffaloes Our Lady Eagle 7th graders jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Johnson City Eagles started the second round of district play last Tuesday and found themselves in a hole. However, as all great teams do the Eagles never gave up and stayed undefeated in district play. Ingram Warriors The Eagles traveled to Ingram Tom Moore to face the Warriors. Ingram came out red hot and took an 18 to 12 lead after one period. The Lady Eagles traveled to Ingram Tuesday evening and flew into a gym full of red hot Lady Warriors. Ingram Warriors Ingram Tom Moore lit up the score board for 26 first quarter points. The Lady Eagles could only score 7, thus Johnson City found themselves trailing by 19 after one quarter 26-7. The Lady Eagles could not find the bottom of the basket in the second quarter and found themselves down 34-9 at the half.
The Johnson City School Board accepted the terms of Superintendent David Shanley’s retirement at a special meeting on January 25, 2017. His retirement will take effect on August 1, 2017.
