Louis (Ludwig) Martin, came to Fredericksburg with the original German settlers. Then in 1853 he moved to a hill just north of the Llano River, 30 miles to the northwest in what would become Mason County. His mother and daughter shared the name Hedwig, and in their honor Louis named his new home Hedwig’s Hill. A branch of the Pinta Trail crossed the Llano River at Hedwig’s Hill.
Johnson City Police Department has submitted arrest warrants for two suspects after a traffic stop on Monday night, December 19th where Johnson City Police Officer, John Pedraza discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia which qualifies the suspects for second degree felonies. According to a report from Johnson City Police Chief, Randy Holland, on December 19, 2016, Officer John Pedraza observed a Silver Chrysler Minivan with only one headlight traveling Northbound on Highway 281.
Johnson City hosted the Lady Warriors from Ingram Friday night and lost a close contest 47-35. The Lady Eagles fell to 0-2 in district play and 2-11 on the year. The Lady Eagles will take a break and resume play after Christmas. Johnson City and Ingram matched baskets in the first quarter and took a 10-8 lead in the opening period.
A 28-year-old Blanco area man was killed early Saturday when he was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 281 on the south side of the city. Blanco Police Chief Mike Ritchey told the Blanco County News that Austin Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that occurred between 12:15 and 12:30 a.m.

The Blanco County Commissioners Courtroom was packed on Tuesday December 13, 2016 to support the retiring elected officials that were honored during the first December Commissioners’ session. The routine agenda items went by quickly as Commissioners authorized payment of the outstanding bills for the month at $84,539, approved official reports and payroll.
The Johnson City Eagles had a great showing at the Natalia Tournament finishing second behind a high ranked AA Brackett. The Eagles are 6-4 on the season and will face Leakey in Leakey Tuesday and open district play Friday at home against Ingram Tom Moore. The Eagles started the tournament playing a talented Stockdale team.
Last weekend the Lady Eagles competed in the Lady Ro-Hawk Tournament losing three out of their three games but improving with each one. Coach Katy Taylor knew that when she took the Johnson City Lady Eagle basketball job that it would be a tough task, with most the team graduating last year and moving up to class AAA.
