More than $508,000 in grants awarded in last cycle; Applications for new grants due by July 31 AUSTIN, Texas – The Lower Colorado River Authority is accepting applications for grants of up to $50,000 for community projects throughout the LCRA service area. Applications for Community Development Partnership Program grants are available at lcra.org/cdpp and are due by July 31. “The communities LCRA serves are very important to us,’’ LCRA General Manager Phil Wilson said.
Blanco State Park already hit full capacity on Sunday, June 18, which was Father’s Day. The park attendants think July 4 will be the same. The overnight camp grounds are fully booked every weekend until August of this year, but day passes are available on a first come, first serve basis. The staff wants to warn people that once the park is at full capacity, no one else is let into the park, period.
Head Chef Cindy Voss and her husband and business manager Dave Klaus, have embarked on an exciting new journey of restaurant ownership. Though opening a restaurant is new to Cindy, making tasty and innovative dishes is not. Cindy started cooking at a young age in her mother’s kitchen in Kansas City, Kansas, mixing up random ingredients from the cupboard.
Congratulations to Rusty Weirich on receiving his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice at Tarlton State University on May 12. Rusty is the son of Leroy and Shirley Weirich. Rusty's wife, Kim, his three children, Rylee, Reagan, and Reid, Leroy and Shirley Weirich, and Kim's parents, Paul and Connie Nichols attended the graduation.
The Community of Mason is sponsoring a blood drive Monday, March 28th, from 4-7:30 p.m. This drive will be held in the Bloodmobile outside the Mason County Library. Ryker Smith Padgett Knox Padgett announces the birth of this little brother, Ryker Smith Padgett. He was born August 23, 2015 at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas weighing 8 lbs and 2 oz and 20 inches long. Ryker is also welcomed by his parents Patrick and Shelee (Granberg) Padgett and grandparents Perry and Jan Wagner and Paul and Lisa Granberg.
Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph Haas Jr. of Blanco, Texas along with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kosub of St. Hedwig, Texas are happy to announce the engagement of their children, Rebecca (Becki) Dawn Haas and Cody Kosub. The bride elect is currently employed with Red Arena Riding Equines for the Disabled in Dripping Springs Texas, and the Future Groom is employed with Texas Department of Transportation out of Sequin Texas.
Tejas Art Club has named Belinda Turk their September Artist of the Month. Turk joined the group two years ago after being invited by Olga Ibarra and has since then enjoyed trying her hand at painting and experimenting with new techniques. “I had serious doubts about joining at first because I couldn’t paint,” Turk said.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative's Board of Directors approved an updated strategic plan at its May 19 meeting. The document, outlining PEC's direction for the next three years, was crafted over the past three months with input from Board members, the Cooperative's management and its consultant partner. Some of the highlights of the newly-adopted plan include: Maintaining low member rates through improved efficiency, cost reductions and a low cost energy portfolio.
