Blanco County area residents who served in the military have three opportunities to be recognized on and around Veterans Day. The Blanco Independent School District extends an invitation to all veterans to visit each of its three schools on Friday, Nov. 11, 2017. The day will kick-off in front of Blanco Middle School at 8:10 a.m.
The Blanco Veterans Parade will be held on Veteran’s Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. “I am so excited to be honoring our veterans on Veteran’s Day,” said Roxanna Avants, parade organizer. “Please come out and honor these men and women. Let’s show them how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice.” Line-up will be from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) will host a ranch gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds in Fredericksburg, Texas. The event allows local cattle producers to learn about TSCRA’s recent activities and network with other cattle raisers in the area. World-renowned guitarist Johannes Moller has performed in places as far away as the Netherlands, New Zealand and Europe. Now he’s coming to Blanco as the opening concert of the Blanco Performing Arts’ 2017-18 chamber music series. Moller–who won the 2010 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition¬–will perform with Argentinian guitarist Laura Fraticelli Saturday, Oct.
The Old Blanco County Courthouse in Blanco will host its 27th annual Gala from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. Organizer Karen Knutson said, “The event and the Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament takes place Saturday morning are the largest fundraisers of the year for the historic structure and is vital to the restoration and maintenance of the facility.” The courthouse needs substantial repairs, which is the primary focus of the Old Blanco County Courthouse Preservation Society’s fu ...

The Albert Community Club will hold a fish fry on Saturday, Sept, 23, 2017. at the Williams Creek School in Albert. The Williams Creek school building dates from 1897, and was in constant use until 1950, when enrollment dropped and students were sent to the Stonewall school. Since that time the building has been used by the Albert Community Club.
Florine and Harold Lord were married 70 years ago on Sept. 5, 1947, in Cuero, Texas, just after Harold returned from service in the Army Air Corps. The Lords moved to Blanco in 1950, when Harold was recruited to be the manager of Luther Hill’s Loma Ranch. Such a special anniversary required days of recognition of their contributions by friends and family.
The Blanco Coalition on Awareness, Prevention, and Treatment of Substance Abuse (Blanco CoAPT) is hosting a “Livin’ Clean” Safe and Drug-Free Wellness Fair on September 13, 2017 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Blanco High School Cafeteria. Blanco CoAPT is hosting this FREE family fun event to provide awareness and education on reducing youth substance abuse.
