The work day to set up pens, clean the show barn and make other additional preparations for the upcoming 2018 Blanco County Youth Show is scheduled for SATURDAY DECEMBER 9, 2017 AT 8AM until 1PM at the Blanco County Livestock Show Barn in Johnson City.
ALL PARENTS OF EXHIBITORS, 4-H & FFA MEMBERS ARE ASKED TO COME AND HELP GET THE BARN READY FOR THE 2018 SHOW.
Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and their team are excited to return to Texas! They plan to film episodes of the hit series American Pickers throughout the region in December 2017 and January 2018.
AMERICAN PICKERS is a documentary series that explores the fascinating world of antique ‘picking’ on History. The hit show follows Mike and Frank, two of the most skilled pickers in the business, as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques.
Grant Announcement:
The Texas State Library and Archives commission awarded $75,000 for the “Rolling Library DIY” grant for six Central Texas libraries, including the Blanco Library, to present unique Makerspace opportunities to rural libraries. The Bulverde Spring Branch library applied for this cooperative grant to give each library chances to host equipment and classes that each library could not independently provide themselves.
KBB has joined with Hill Country Alliance, The Nature Conservancy, and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department in the restoration of the riparian at Town Creek.
On November 14th, KBB held a “Kick Off’ for the riparian restoration of Town Creek. Ryan McGillicuddy from Texas Parks & Wildlife and students from Blanco High School gathered together at Town Creek to begin work.
Ryan provided the students with background information before diving into the projects of the day.

This year marks the 28th anniversary of Lights Spectacular, Hill Country Style. Proclaimed as “the centerpiece of one of the biggest shows on the Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighting Trail” by Southern Living magazine, it features a courthouse that “shines brighter than the star of Bethlehem.”
The entire town is bathed in brightness with 100,000 lights twinkling on the Blanco County Courthouse.
Due to a series of complications, this year's Hill Country Western Showcase has been canceled, according to Dennis Moore, Buggy Barn Museum owner.
The event had been held for the past five years during the first weekend in November.
The family-friendly Showcase featured Wild West acts, western re-enactors, historians and musical performances on the grounds of the Buggy Barn Museum, located at 1915 State Hwy 281.
The Fall Pedernales Watershed Landowners' Gathering will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov 12, 2017.
The event will take place Three Mile Creek Ranch is located at 4686 Schumann Road. This is about five miles from Highway 1623, near Albert.
Someone will welcome you at the gate. Once you enter the ranch, it will be an additional ~20 minute drive to the potluck site.

Last year, author Jayne Hover presented to Blanco Elementary primary teachers how to use nursery rhymes to teach reading and writing. K-2 teachers piloted some of the lessons. The following students had their work published in the book “Text Structures from Nursery Rhymes-Teaching Reading & Writing to Young Children.” Students were in 1st grade teacher Mindy Lay’s class, and 2nd grade teacher Kristen Schultz’s class.
Hill Country Memorial Hospice announces the upcoming meeting schedule for its Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group for anyone affected by those conditions, their families and caregivers. The Support Group will meet on Tues., Nov. 14 from 2-3 p.m. in the second-floor conference room of the Brune Building at 808 Reuben St.
