The Mason Punchers know that, throughout the season, they're going to meet up with opponents with whom they have a long and complicated history. None of those histories are as complicated as with the Refugio Bobcats. One year ago, the Bobcats defeated the Punchers in the Alamodome, ending Mason's quest for another state title.
This Friday, Mason will meet up with the San Augustine Wolves. This east Texas team has a 12-2 record, and will be an unknown quantity for the Punchers, as we've had little exposure to their playing. The game is scheduled for Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Waco I.S.D.
The essays are in and our judging team has selected winners of the Jr. Hi Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest and the Voice of Democracy contest for high school. We received 11 entries and our judges decided that each entry was a winner as well and received $50 and the two winners received $200 each for their efforts and writing skills. The winner of the Patriot’s Pen contest was an 8th grader by the name of Karli Bauer and the high school entry was written by a Puncher whose name is Zach Nolan ...
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for their regular meeting on November 26, 2018 at the School Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm with members Jim Bob Smith, Julio Ramon, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, and Kathryn Martin in attendance. Members of the Mason County 4-H Club meet weekly to prepare for the Mason County Food Show and District 7 Food Challenge. In all, there are twenty members attending two practices each Sunday. Grace Christian School has generously allowed 4-H to use their kitchen facilities for the educational program. The members range in age from 8 to 18.
Mason Youth Basketball registration ends this Saturday, December 8th. Skills day and the team drafts will be done this weekend. Once the teams are drafted, no more registrations will be accepted. If your child cannot be there on Saturday they can still be placed on a team as long as we get a registration form by their tryout times listed below. 2nd Grade 10:00 - 10:30 Kinder - 1st Grade 10:30 - 11:00 3rd - 4th Grade 1:00 - 2:00 5th & 6th Grade 3:00 - 4:00
Mason's victory over Brazos on Friday night sets up a classic rematch for the Punchers against long-time rival, Refugio, this coming Friday. The game against Brazos, the Area game, saw the Punchers in control of the action on the field for all four quarters. The Mason defense continued to dominate their game, holding the Cougars to only 14 points for the night. Mason scored early in the first quarter on a run by Klay Klaerner.
Storytime is held Mondays at 10:30 am in the Kid’s Zone of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Come for holiday stories and crafts in the month of December. On Monday we’ll be reading Jerry Palotta’s Who Will Drive My Sleigh Tonight. Just how and why did Santa select the perfect animal—the reindeer?
High school and college graduations may be months away, but now is the time to start thinking about applying for scholarships, according to Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president. Mason County students are encouraged to apply for more than $200,000 in Farm Bureau college scholarships offered on the local, district and state levels. “Scholarships and awards are an excellent opportunity for Farm Bureau families to earn money to pursue their education,” Shannon said.
