I, along with my Quartermaster, Eli Castillo, visited the 8th grade Friday, Dec. 6, to make the presentations to the winners of the Patriots Pen essay contest and were greeted by the faculty, Mr. Ryan Holbrook, Principal, Ms. Shanda Schmidt, Assistant Principal and faculty, Ms. Holly Whittle and Mr. Chase Pilgrim.
The VFW Post chose a winner and two places in the contest.

Mason High School senior Slone Stultz was voted defensive player of the year on the Associated Press Class 2A All-State football team announced Sunday.
The voting is done by the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors based on regular-season performance.
Stultz (6-foot-0, 225 pounds) was a first-team offensive and first-team defensive selection as a lineman.

Mason High School’s UIL Congressional Debate Team competed at the Regional Congress Tournament in San Angelo several weeks ago, and three students advanced to State.
Lizzy White, a junior who was a finalist at State last year, placed 1st at the Regional Meet. Megan Canfield, a senior who earned a bronze medal at State last year, came in 2nd, and Sydney Hardin, a freshman who was competing in her first contest, placed 3rd.
Last week the JV boys basketball started their season out with a win over Rochelle’s JV with a score of 39-11. They also participated in the Rochelle Tournament over the weekend.
In the first matchup, they played Rochelle’s JV and won with a score of 35-23. In the second game, they lost to TLCA’s JV 56-46.
They also lost a tight game against Brooksmith’s Varsity 56-46.
The Mason school bands will hold their annual Christmas Concert this Thursday, December 12th, in the High School gym starting at 7:00 p.m. The concert will start with the 6th grade band to be followed by the JH band and then the HS band.
The Board of Trustees of MISD met for special training, “Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse” on November 25, 2019 at 5:00 pm in the Administration Office. Board President Jeff Durst and members Jim Bob Smith, Cole Farmer, Tina Cantu-Navarro, Ryan Jordan, Mary Donaldson and Kathryn Martin were in attendance. Melody Jeter with the Children’s Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas presented.
