Saturday evening, January 25th, the wineries and grape growers in and around Mason County hosted the second scholarship fundraiser dinner to support graduating seniors from Mason High School. The event is held on the last Saturday in January at the Library, and this year was, once again, a huge success.

The Mason Jr. High Robotics won the area robotics Inventions contest. Our 1st place team was a pipe cleaning robot by Scout Magnus, Jordan Lyles, and Cannon Rabon. The 3rd place team was an automated tractor and hay hauler by Cy Nobles, Wyatt Row and Kamryn Leoffler. These two teams have qualified for state robotics in May. FORT WORTH, TEXAS, February 1, 2020 – Mason 4H member Jarrett Shane Worrell captured Champion Spring Yearling Heifer and Reserve Grand Champion Heifer with WORR Borrowed Angel 46F ET in the Junior Polled Hereford Heifer Show at the 2020 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo on January 27. Students from Mason High School had an especially successful performance at the UIL Congressional Debate State Meet last week in Austin. Megan Canfield, a senior, earned a silver medal for 2nd place, and freshman Sydney Hardin placed 6th overall. Lizzy White, a junior, also qualified as a state finalist. UIL Congress is an event that is comprised of two days of debate, with students following parliamentary procedure to debate on twenty proposed bills.
High school and college graduations may be months away, but now is the time to start thinking about applying for scholarships, according to Will Frey, Mason County Farm Bureau president. Mason County students are encouraged to apply for more than $200,000 in Farm Bureau college scholarships offered on the local, district and state levels. “Scholarships and awards are an excellent opportunity for Farm Bureau families to earn money to pursue their education,” Frey said.

The 8th annual Puncher Band Auction is this Saturday, January 25th - kick off with the first auction table is live on Lone Star 102.5 at 9:00 a.m. Come by the band hall to view the auction items in person or check us out on the Mighty Mason Puncher Band Facebook page.
The JV Boys Basketball played Sterling City and Goldthwaite last week. Both games were very close to the end. Against Sterling City, the Punchers fought hard but came up just short losing 33-31. Brody Comey was the high scorer for the Punchers with 11 points. Also scoring for the Punchers were Ivan Wofford with 8, Carson Cox-Kelton with 4, Milam Mayfield with 4, and Kaleb Fisher with 2. The Goldthwaite game the Punchers lost 30-23.
