The Punchers had their first trip on the road last Friday night, and the Johnson City Eagles gave the Mason team a great opportunity to work out some of their early season cobwebs! The game saw the Punchers being hit with several penalties, giving up 63 yards to JC's 21. Even with those missteps, the Punchers were still able to shut out the Eagles for a 35-0 win. The 2017 Puncher football season got off to its official start on Friday night as Mason welcomed the Goldthwaite Eagles to the Puncherdome. The lingering presence of Hurricane Harvey continued to make itself known, as the Eagles fans called ahead to Mason to make sure they would be able to fuel up for the journey home after the game.
The Mason County Livestock & Wildlife Protection Association held a drawing for a Savage Predator Model Rifle. This is an annual drawing provided as an incentive to all residents to pay their association dues. The winner of the rifle drawing this year is Randy Baker. Mr. Baker represents the Heart of the Heart Whitetail Ranch in Fredonia.
Late last week, as storm clouds brewed over the Gulf of Mexico, another storm was brewing on the north side of the square at the Mason Square Museum. A caller notified the News that the Museum had removed a portrait of General Robert E. Lee. The News was further told that many of the volunteer docents were choosing to end their service at the facility in response to the move. Tiani Tovar, daughter of Joe and Dora Tovar of Mason, was selected to participate in the 2017 State FFA Chorus this summer in Corpus Christie. Tiani performed in front of six to eight thousand FFA Members and guest during each of the eight general sessions during the 89th Annual Texas FFA Convention.
Can you feel it?!?! The excitement of Puncher football is just around the corner with the Mason Punchers having already started their “Two a Day” workouts and a successful scrimmage versus Sonora. This season looks to be exciting as we prepare for our 102nd year of Mason Puncher football. The coaches, football players, trainers, cheerleaders, Puncher Pete, flag corps, and band have been preparing for the new season.

There is a completely new format and design with wonderful Mason County photographs, thanks to Jeff Durst for sharing his expertise. All available information is on our website, but we are constantly updating and changing information. One of the greatest new features of the site is the ability to “Subscribe” to a teacher page.
It’s time to put down your phones and drive, Texas. Beginning Sept. 1, it will be illegal to read or send text messages, post on Facebook or update Twitter while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. “This law was put in place to save lives,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said.
The Mason County Ministerial Alliance invites you to join us on Thursday, August 24th at 8:00 AM to pray for our children, their teachers, and the Mason ISD administration. We will hold this 15 minute time of prayer at the tennis courts behind the school. There will be prayer, singing, and a short devotional.
