Children’s songwriter and entertainer Joe McDermott will perform a lively concert for the kids at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, 410 Post Hill St., TODAY, at 1:30 P.M. The program is in lieu of Read to Swim, but children who attend will receive swim passes. Admission is FREE. Referred to as “a Texas treasure” by the State Library Association, Joe McDermott released his first album of children’s music in 1988.
The City of Mason will be holding a City Wide Tire Clean-Up scheduled to begin on Monday, June 10th, 2019 and continue through Friday, June 14th, 2019. All tires can be dropped off at the Recycling Center during the hours of 7am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. The Recycling Center is located at 510 N.

On Sunday, May 19th, Mason County Historical Commission members placed a Mason County Memorial Marker on Old Pontotoc Rd. near Brockman Lane (on the right-of-way five and a half miles east of Mason) to identify the graves of two early citizens of the county, Elias and James Shoonover (or Schnoover).
The City of Mason and Mason County will test the severe weather sirens this Thursday, May 6, at 1:00 p.m., if weather permits. The test will not be conducted if skies are cloudy, only clear and sunny.

The Mason ISD has been using an app called SchoolWay to send out information to the students, parents and community over the last few years. It has been very helpful for instances such as delayed start due to wether or celebrating a state championship win. SchoolWay is no longer going to be available, but don’t worry, we have a new plan already in place.
Continuing education after high school can be costly. That’s why Mason County Farm Bureau awarded $2000 in scholarships to local students. “We offer these scholarships to support our local youth,” Mason County Farm Bureau President, Shannon Worrell said. “Trade school, college and university educations can be expensive. Scholarships are our way to provide assistance.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team closed its season last week at the State Speech Meet at the University of Texas. The event capped one of the Academic Team’s most successful seasons in recent years. Senior Victoria Baltierra highlighted the day by winning the State Championship in Poetry Interpretation. Victoria had previously competed at State in Poetry in 2017.
