I, along with my Quartermaster, Eli Castillo, visited the 8th grade Friday, Dec. 6, to make the presentations to the winners of the Patriots Pen essay contest and were greeted by the faculty, Mr. Ryan Holbrook, Principal, Ms. Shanda Schmidt, Assistant Principal and faculty, Ms. Holly Whittle and Mr. Chase Pilgrim. The VFW Post chose a winner and two places in the contest.

The voting is done by the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors based on regular-season performance. The city of Mason Recycle Center will not put out the recycle trailers normally located at Northside Park and Heritage Park this weekend. Due to the shortened week and the expected overflow of recyclables, we ask that you bring your recyclables to us during our regular business hours. We will be opened 7:00 a.m.
It is time to remind everyone of the Patriot Warriors’ Mason County Veterans Hunt. Our meal and hunt kick off will be Friday, January 10, and it will again be held at the Community Building. A sirloin and sausage meal with all the trimmings will be served around 12 noon following the Quilts of Valor presentation. Any ladies (or men) who wish to bring sides or desserts will be appreciated. We are expecting fifty or so hunters to be hosted by twenty two area ranchers.

Mason High School’s UIL Congressional Debate Team competed at the Regional Congress Tournament in San Angelo several weeks ago, and three students advanced to State. Lizzy White, a junior who was a finalist at State last year, placed 1st at the Regional Meet. Megan Canfield, a senior who earned a bronze medal at State last year, came in 2nd, and Sydney Hardin, a freshman who was competing in her first contest, placed 3rd.
