The 9th of January was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day and to honor our local defenders of the law, the Mason Post 8554 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars had the pleasure of having about 30 of our Esteemed Group as our guest for a lunch at Mi Pueblo Restaurant, Wednesday, the 8th, as well as our EDITOR OF THE NEWS.
The event will be at the Mason County Library on Thursday, January 23 at 7 pm. Participants include: Pct. #1 County Commissioner, Reggie Loeffler, and Pct. #3 County Commissioner, Buddy Schuessler. The two candidates running for County Sheriff are: Brian Haley and Joe Lancaster. The candidate for County Attorney is Rebekah Whitworth.

The Mason County Republican Women will hold their bimonthly luncheon on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 11:30 a.m. in the Stribling Room at the Mason Library. Members and guests will gather at 11:30 am for meet and greet with the luncheon starting promptly at noon. Our special speaker will be Blixen Hofmann, who will present her views on: “Challenges Facing Today’s Conservative Teens.” Blixen is a 15 year old sophomore at Mason High School.
The Llano Country Opry will present a special performance by The Ragin Cajun Doug Kershaw on January 11, with shows at 2:30 PM & 7:30 PM. Born in an unincorporated community called Tiel Ridge in Cameron Parish, Doug Kershaw did not learn English until the age of eight.

The 2020 Mason County Livestock Show & Expo is this week! Head out to the Fort Mason Park Community Building this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3-4 and show your support for Mason’s hard-working youth participating in this year’s show. The stock show will feature cattle, swine, sheep and goats as well as the Food and Nutrition Show, the Eldon Kothmann Memorial Ag Mechanics Show and the Fastest Torch in Mason County competition.
High school students in the Central Texas Electric Cooperative service area can now submit an essay to be one of three winners for the 2020 Government-in-Action Youth Tour, an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 17-26. Essays must be turned in by January 24th for this opportunity that truly is the trip of a lifetime.
