Billie Tonita Gray passed away on July 18, 2019, in Temple Texas. Born on August 25, 1936, to Anthony J “Tony” Smithwick and Cloma Lee Lockhart Smithwick in San Saba County. She met Charles Lewis Gray and they married on June 24, 1952, in a double wedding ceremony along with Charles’ brother and bride, Ken & Shirley Gray, in the Cherokee High School Gym.
Edward Bryian Williams, 81 years old, and resident of Buchanan Dam, Texas, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 in Austin, Texas at St. David’s Hospital. Ed was born in Hamlin, Texas on December 9, 1937. At a young age, his parents moved the family to Odessa, Texas then to Imperial, Texas where Ed graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1958.
Jimmie Day of Waco, formerly of San Antonio, passed away early Saturday morning July 27, 2019, at the age of 93. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 31, 2019, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, 8220 Woodway Dr. Waco with Rev. Dennis Rejcek officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Parlor of Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Mary Leigh passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019, with family at her side. She was born February 21, 1946 in Brady, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; Worth Jones, and Louise Burnam Jones, and two brothers; Burnam Jones and Tracy Jones. Mary is survived by her brother Bobby Jones and his wife Eloisa; and Mary’s sister Sandra Kuykendall and her husband Lovell Kuykendall.
Warrenetta “Netta” Loy Johnson, of Spicewood, Texas, born November 28, 1943, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 22, 2019. Born in Llano, Texas to John Warren Lockhart and Viva Lavern Lockhart. Netta was married to the love of her life, Charles Alexander Johnson, February 14, 1961 - April 1, 2011, the day of his passing. Her passions included: gardening, sewing, crocheting and spending time with family and friends.
Marilyn Kothmann Perry was born January 11, 1940 to Gleasen Kothmann and Ruby (Donop) Kothmann and grew up on a ranch just outside of Llano, Texas. She attended and graduated from the Llano Public Schools in 1957, and then attended Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1960, and later her master’s degree and mid-management certification from the same university.
Ronald Ralph Spangenberg, 86 of Meadowlakes, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2019. He was born on February 9, 1933 to Ralph H. and Ruth (Schroeder) Spangenberg in Hawley, Pennsylvania. Ron attended Penn State University on a vocal scholarship and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He was proud to be named the Featured Vocalist for Penn State Dance Band.
Our friend, brother, and father Jerry Don Herrera went to be with the Lord on July 19, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer. Through it all he remained positive and never faltered in his faith in the Lord. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Rosa and Margarito Herrera, and his brother Margarito “J.R.” Herrera. Peggy June Schmidt, age 68 of Tow, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at her residence. She was born on August 16, 1950 in Fort Worth, Texas to Sam Mills and Lucille (Edwards) Mills. Peggy married Richard Schmidt on June 18, 1971 in Burleson, Texas. Peggy and Richard were formerly residents of the Houston area then moving to Tow in February 1997.
J W “Jay” Spencer, 72, of Greeneville, TN, passed away early Wednesday morning at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, TN. He was born June 7, 1947 in San Angelo, TX to the late William Dean and Addie King Spencer and grew up in Llano, TX until he joined the U.S.
