Everyone at The Llano News got toghether on Friday to wish longtime News Editor, Heather Wagner, a fond farewell. Heather has accepted a job with HEB in Fredericksburg, She will be missed. Volunteers play a key role in keeping the City government close to the people it serves and provides ideas, feedback and suggestions and may serve as a sounding board for proposed policy. The City of Llano City Council depends on the input from residents serving on Boards, Commissions and Committees.
No doubt when the young men from Llano County who traveled to Camp Terry near Austin in April, 1862 to enlist as soldiers in the 17th Texas Infantry, Co. E, under Captain Seth Mabry, the boys felt engagements in skirmishes and battles would soon follow once their training period was completed.

Wyatt Casey, who went from the gridiron to winter training, easily captured the 400-meter race at the Panther Relays in a time of 50.99 seconds. “It’s a good time from which to work,” he told me. “I know what I’m capable of.” Casey ran a 50.3 indoors in a race in Arkansas.
In the 200, “The Wimberley guy {Chris Hartman} has a heck of a stride.
“It was in the broadcast booth,” Llano football radio analyst, Lance Center, reminded me, “when I announced he wanted to play Pop Warner football—he had made the weight.”
Maybe a decade later, Colton Center, at 275 pounds, has made the weight again, and he’ll be an offensive lineman for Mary Hardin-Baylor in the fall.

WIMBERLEY—The softball Jackets shook off a frightening Friday and authored a superb Saturday at the Texans’ tournament, February 27-28.
Llano was roughed up by a trio of foes in merciless fashion on Day One; they outscored the Jackets by a combined 28 runs to 7. The host team got it started with a 10-0 win.
