The Hill Country Land Trust (HCLT), an accredited nonprofit land conservation group headquartered in Fredericksburg, Texas, welcomed three new board members during its recent annual retreat; Tiffany Osburn and Linda Ryan of Travis County and George Barr of Blanco County. Hill Country Land Trust and its conservation easement donors will benefit from the knowledge these three professionals bring to the board.
While doing missionary work in Uruguay, South America, my companion and I met a young man on the streets of Montevideo who expressed interest in our message. He gave us an address and suggested that we meet him there at a specified time the next day. At the appointed hour, we descended from an old, rickety city bus and stared up at the address we had been given—it was posted in bold numbers at the entrance to Montevideo’s municipal cemetery!

In 2016, City employees worked hard to make Johnson City the best place in the Hill Country to live. More streets were paved, and this year, the rest of Pecan Street and several others will be paved. The City will be paving additional streets annually until all streets in the city are completed.
“Things, they are a changin’” Says the sign on the front window of The Old Lumber Yard. The complex that has stood the test of time is once again facing changes as it evolves with Johnson City. On February 1, 2017 The Old Lumber Yard will no longer be an antique mall, but will begin its transformation into an event space. Jesse and Sandy Kinman, owners of The Old Lumber Yard Complex since 1998, opened the antique mall in January of 1999.
There are two weeks left to file for a place on the ballot for the local general election on May 6, 2017. This year voters will get to decide on Johnson City Mayor, three City Council seats and two JCISD School Board seats. First to file for this year’s election was Johnson City’s current Mayor, Dawn Capra.
Remember last year, when Johnson City finished filling the collection truck for the annual disaster used clothing drive? When the truck left JC, it was jam-full to the doors with used clothing. Problem was, it hadn’t finished making all its stops — there were more to go — so a second truck had to be re-routed to finish the run. Let’s do it again! It’s the annual interfaith clothing drive that stocks the warehouse ahead of the spring flood and tornado season, so when a disaster require ...
