The Johnson City Library and six libraries were awarded a $75,000 grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The purpose of the grant is for smaller communities to have access to technology equipment we might not be able to afford, and to give our communities training and knowledge to work with this equipment. The grant was written by the Bulverde Spring Branch Library and titled “Rolling Do It Yourself”.
Game Warden Sam Smith gave the invocation at Tuesday night’s city council meeting before the council convened into their regular monthly session. The Council adopted impact fees for future development and added an addendum to the most recent zoning map. Local business owners also shared their traffic concerns surrounding the Courthouse Square. Texas voted to adopt all seven propositions proposed by lawmakers during the 2017 legislative session that will amend the state constitution. There were 156 constitutional amendments proposed by the 85th regular session, with seven finding their way to the statewide ballot measure. What started as a controlled burn pile, blazed out of control last Thursday, in Johnson City. The fire ignited 85 acres of ranch land and jumped the Pedernales River before fire fighters could extinguish the blaze later that day. On Monday, Oct. 9 the Johnson City School Board met for their monthly meeting. Superintendent Richard Kolek presented the District of Innovation plan. The board later approved the plan. Earlier this year, the School Board approved the proposal for Johnson City to become a district of innovation which went into effect in September.
Round Mountain is slated to be the home of a rock crushing plant unless local protestors are successful in getting the permit denied next week. Local land owners, business owners and ranchers from Round Mountain, Marble Falls and the surrounding area lined US Highway 281 last Saturday and Sunday at the site where Asphalt Inc.
Johnson City, City Council was back to their regularly scheduled meetings on Tuesday, Oct. 3. They met to discuss and hold a public hearing on possible impact fees for future developments. They voted to approve a lease agreement with HC Wireless which could lead to free wireless internet in the city parks and library.
The City Council approved the budget and tax rate at a special meeting on Wednesday Sept. 20. There were no comments at the public hearing for both the tax rate and budget so the council went into regular session to discuss and approve the tax rate and budget. The tax rate and levy is increasing to a rate of $0.465 per $100.
Blanco County Commissioners met for a regular session on Tuesday Sept. 26. They received a report from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and chose a nominee to represent the county to the Blanco County Appraisal District.
