The first October session of the Commissioners’ Court took place on Tuesday morning, October 11. The short meeting regarded the Blanco County Hazard Mitigation Plan, the old Blanco County Jail building, and inmate transfer agreements with other counties, as well as routine county business. Commissioners approved the minutes, October payroll and official reports.

Florence won the toss and gave the Eagles the opening kickoff. Johnson City was able to pick up 2 first downs, but a penalty and a sack brought an early end to the drive.
Haley Stehling, a 2013 graduate of Lydon B. Johnson High School and a May 2016 graduate of Texas A&M University with a major in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, recently began a fall 2016 internship in Washington, D.C. Haley will spend the fall as an integral part of the office of Congressman Pete Sessions. Haley is one of 14 students selected for a policy internship through the Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy (ANRP) Internship Program at Texas A&M University.
The Tenth Annual Johnson City Open Championship Golf Tournament was held this past week-end at “Vaaler Creek Golf Club” in Blanco. Local golfers from the Johnson City area participated in the event. Founders of the event felt that it would be a great way for local residents to “get to know” who in JC actually plays the game since they do not have a local course to gather and play.
The 2016/2017 budget and tax rate were approved and adopted at the September 6 City Council meeting and public hearing. The meeting also had a presentation from Matthew Wigglesworth expanding on the recent progress in the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center as well as discussions regarding a public safety fund. Lady Eagle volleyball regained their momentum Friday September 2 against Llano and against Lampasas on Tuesday, September 6, defeating both teams on their home court in Johnson City. During Friday’s game the Varsity Eagles took down the Llano Yellowjackets in three sets. Kill leader for the night was Skylar McKennis with 17 kills.
The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Mason Friday night. The Punchers were still stinging from their loss the previous week to Goldthwaite and wanted to take out their anger on someone; and unfortunately it was the Eagles. Johnson City was out-manned in the trenches all night long and as all football fans know the game is won in the trenches.
At a special meeting of the Johnson City School Board on August 29, 2016 the new budget and tax rate for the 2016-2017 fiscal year was adopted. After an hour of going over the details and figures they have been discussing for months a total budget amount of $9,923,811.12 was approved with a budgeted deficit of $358,124.12.

The Johnson City Eagles traveled to Leakey Friday night to officially start the Chris Cloninger era as the new head Football coach. The Eagles’ high octane offense did well scoring several times, but was not hitting on all cylinders yet. Coach Cloninger was pleased with the Eagles’ effort and hustle, but knows there is still much work to be done.
The City Council held a special meeting on Thursday, August 11 to discuss the general and system budgets with special focus on funding for Old Annex Office Solutions, the Johnson City visitor’s center and police department. After opening the meeting the Council quickly went into executive session to discuss granting funds to Deborah Burkhard for the Old County Annex project.
