Kinder Morgan donated $172,000 to the North Blanco County EMS last Wednesday at the North Blanco County Emergency Station in Johnson City. The Johnson City City Council held a special meeting on June 4 via Zoom online videoconference. All members were present, and Mayor Rhonda Stell called the meeting to order at 2 p.m.. Mayor Rhonda Stell called the regular meeting of the City Council to order at 6 p.m. on June 2 remotely via Zoom online videoconference. All council members were present and there were no public comments. A Blanco County man has died of COVID-19. The man, who was in his 60s, died unexpectedly at his home in the Johnson City zip code, according to the Blanco County Office of Emergency Management. It is the first reported death of the disease in the county. All unattended deaths in the county are being screened for COVID-19 by authority of the local health authority.
A camera which contained radioactive material and went missing late last week has been found, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. The department reported Monday morning that the camera, which was lost Friday after the truck it was in was swept away in floodwaters of the Pedernales River, was found intact east of North River Road near Stonewall.
Selah Bamberger Ranch Preserve is pleased to announce the selection of a new executive director to lead the nonprofit into the future. Selah’s board of directors has unanimously selected April Sansom for the position. Sansom will assume her new duties on June 11. Selah Bamberger Ranch Preserve is an internationally recognized 5,500-acre ranch in Blanco County that has been restored to its original habitat.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Deputy Under Secretary Bette Brand kicked off National Homeownership Month by highlighting USDA’s ongoing role in supporting rural homeownership. President Trump issued a proclamation on May 29 recognizing June as National Homeownership Month. “Rural communities are rising to the challenge put forth by the coronavirus pandemic,” Brand said.
ESD 1 held a regular meeting via teleconference on May 18. President David O’Bannon called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. and a quorum was established. Board member AJ Gallerano gave a motion to accept the minutes of the April 20, 2020 meeting and Vice President Brandt Raeburn seconded; the motion carried with a vote of 5-0.
Judge Brett Bray called the Commissioners Court special meeting to order at 9:02 a.m. on May 26. All four commissioners were present and the meeting was broadcasted via Zoom. Kenneth Welch, Blanco County citizen, provided public comments. He encouraged the court to provide citizens with a current assessment of the financial impacts from the pandemic.
