The wildfire along and to the west of RM 2831 on August 18, 2020 burned almost 400 acres and called for the voluntary evacuation of two neighborhoods. But only one home was lost and no injuries were sustained, thanks to the efforts of the dozens of fire agencies who responded to the emergency.
In an interview this week, Horseshoe Bay Fire Chief Brent Batla said the initial call came in at 3:19 p.m.
Llanoans who tuned in on Sunday to the Animal Planet’s law enforcement TV show “Lone Star Law” were treated to some local scenery. The Castell General Store, a longtime Llano River destination, is right there on the screen, as Texas Game Warden Kegan Gould talks to locals and gets some vittles for the road before busting some bad guys.
Episode one of season eight premiered on Sunday.
Gould is one of three game wardens in Llano County with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
Gary Stites, ACE Hardware General Manager and President of the Horseshoe Bay Business Alliance, Inc. had an idea for this year’s Boogie at the Bay free concert series. “Let’s give away a large coral, not pink, Yeti Cooler for the benefit of Clay Cauble’s medical fund.” So began efforts by the Business Alliance, producers of Boogie each year, to accomplish the goal.
Tickets were available during each of the three weekly concerts at a suggested $10 donation to be eligible to win the ...
Llano County is among the counties that are requiring residents to wear a mask when in public spaces. The order applies to counties with at least 20 COVID-19 cases.
As of July 6, the county’s health authority reported 50 positive COVID-19 cases, 14 of them in Horseshoe Bay. Thirty-one people have recovered and no deaths have been reported.
So far, the city’s police department has not had to do much enforcement of the governor’s order.
The three day Horseshoe Bay Round Up Women’s Division was an exciting nail bitter. HSB Resort Golf Tournament Coordinator Holly Jenkins said, “Play was fabulous across the board, and everyone seemed to have a fantastic time. Several scores improved by 10 or more strokes compared to previous scores, which is absolutely amazing.”
Lynn Bishop, Jennifer Hoyt, and Leslie McCallick have won the Club Championship multiple times.
It’s not over yet.
One local doctor expects the county’s COVID-19 cases to climb, following a statewide trend.
“Statewide numbers are rising at a phenomenal rate,” said Llano County Health Authority Dr. Jack Franklin with Hill Country Direct Care. “I certainly expect Llano’s case count also to continue rising.”
As of June 26, Llano County has had 22 people test positive for COVID-19, including 15 active cases.
This year, the Fourth of July holiday falls on a Saturday and we expect, as in years past, a large turnout for the fireworks display on Saturday evening.
In order to facilitate the swift, safe, and steady exit of spectators from the area of the Yacht Club, we will once again execute a traffic plan for that section of Horseshoe Bay Blvd between the traffic circle and the Yacht Club.
Many in the county are in the process of recovering from the pain of a pandemic; but for others, another kind of suffering has remained.
“Our counselors have reported an increase in abuse with their existing clients, mostly because of employment loss, which leads to financial instability,” said Conny Steele, program director for the Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center in Marble Falls.
June sales tax distributions received by the City of Horseshoe Bay dropped 46.21% over the same collection period last year. June sales tax allocations mostly reflect sales made during April. Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said widespread social distancing requirements were in place across much of the state in April which lead to the steepest year-over-year decline in allocations since September 2009.
The Comptroller sent $443.6 million in June sales tax allocations to cities across the stat ...
Three generations of racers rolled past the barrels last Wednesday night at the John L. Kuykendall Event Arena in Llano, and I’ll just bet my lucky horseshoe that’s some sort of record in itself.
It all started back in Corpus Christi in the mid 1940s when a little girl named Mary Donna Elsea got a horse for her 10th birthday.
