The Blanco FFA Chapter has been very busy this winter competing at our local stock shows. The Chapter Show took place at the Blanco High School Ag Shop on Dec. 15-16, 2017. The show was a great success with more than 46 students participating and 89 animal projects being shown.
Thirty-two San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo’s Ambassador Committee members paid a visit to Blanco Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, to visit the area and have lunch at Old 300 BBQ, 318 Fourth St.
The group, which meets to get out and promote the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, tours two to three cities within 65-70 miles of San Antonio to hang up posters and promote the event.

The Blanco Panthers won an exciting overtime clash against the Johnson City Eagles Friday, Jan 5, 2018, played at home. Blanco led 44-35 at the end of the first half, but the game ended at regulation time tied 76-76. The Panthers outscored the Eagles 14-5 in overtime to take the win 90-81.
The Panthers have a 16-7 overall record and a 2-0 district record.
Senior Nick Sampeck led the team statistically ripping the net with 47 points.
The Blanco Lady Panthers defeated the Johnson City Lady Eagles 56-38 on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, in an exciting home match-up.
The Panthers improved their overall record to 16-8 and their district record to 4-0.
Senior Kendall Brock led the team with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks.
The Blanco Panthers won four straight games to take first place in the Randolph Ro-Hawks Invitational Tournament in San Antonio on Thursday, Dec. 28 and Friday. Dec. 29, 2017.
In their first game of the tournament on Thursday morning, the Panthers defeated the Cotulla Cowboys 77-67. Nick Sampeck fired in 30 points including eight of nine shooting from two-point range, and five of six from the free throw line.
The Lady Panthers posted a 4-0 record to win first place at Our Lady of the Hills tournament in Kerrville on Thursday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.
In the first game on Thursday the Lady Panthers beat the Brentwood Christian Bears 41-30. Kora Brock led the team with 11 points on five of seven shooting from the two-point range.
The Panthers lost to the Boerne Greyhounds 76-48 on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017.
Eddie Calzoncit led Blanco with 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Nick Sampeck sank 18 points and made six rebounds and four assists. James Conklin added five points. Tristan Schlinke contributed three assists and two steals. Tyler LaRue made five rebounds and two blocks.
The Panthers played in the Navarro Panther Classic Tournament on Friday, Dec.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, the Lady Panthers defeated the Florence Lady Buffalo, 54-25.
Blanco jumped out to a 20-4 first quarter lead and held Florence to seven points in each of the three remaining quarters.
Kendall Brock led the Panthers scoring 13 points, including five of five shooting from the free throw line.
