Before a raucous, Friday night home-town crowd Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, the Blanco Panther Boys’ Varsity Basketball team outlasted rival Comfort 72-61 to remain unbeaten in District play at 7-0.
The Panthers started the first quarter working hard to establish their game plan. Both teams were intent on keeping up the pace and pushing the ball up the court, and the first quarter ended with the Panthers up, 17-14.
The Lady Panther basketball team continued to blaze their way through district opponents with a 52-36 win over the Comfort Deer on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, in a home game. The Blanco squad improved their season record to 21-8 and their district record to 8-0.
Blanco entered the game on a nine-game winning streak, and with the Deer sporting only one District loss, fans were expecting a close contest.
On Jan. 26, 2018, the Blanco Panther JV Boys’ Basketball team lost a close game to the Comfort Bobcats, 67-64. The hometown Blanco fans were treated to an exciting game, as the lead was never more than seven points for either side.
Blanco started the game a bit sluggish on offense, as the hot-shooting Bobcats built a 17-11 lead after one quarter.
The Panther boy’s powerlifting team competed at a meet at the Texas Strength Systems gym in San Antonio on Thursday, Jan 18. Powerlifters complete three lifts in their weight class, including the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. Each lifter gets three chances in each of the lift categories to improve their total.
A dedicated student and motivated learner from an early age, Blanco High School graduate Jacie Handberry is currently a junior enrolled at Texas State University. She is working hard to complete her dream of being a college professor in the field of Holocaust and Genocide studies after completing her bachelor’s degree.
The Blanco Lady Panthers finished the first round of 3A District 25 undefeated 5-0 with a 45-30 win against the Lago Vista Lady Vikings on Tuesday, Jan 9, 2018. The Panthers ended the first quarter with a 16-2 lead. The halftime score was 23-20. In the second half the Blanco squad scored 22, while holding the Vikings to only 10 points.
Skylar Wiseman was the statistical team leader with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
The Panthers remain undefeated, 4-0, in District 25-2A with a 72-40 win over the Lago Vista Vikings on Tuesday, Jan. 9 and a 66-55 victory over the Georgetown Gateway Gators on Friday, Jan. 12.
Against Lago Vista, Eddie Calzoncit led the team firing in 19 points and snagging 12 rebounds and three steals.
On Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, the 8th Grade A Team took out the Ingram Warriors by a score of 54-19. Zach Wisdom helped the Panthers win with the high shooting stat of 16 points and Langston Hunter drained 14 points.
The 7th Grade A Team crushed the Warriors 31-15. Devin Newsome put 13 points up on the board, Christian Manriquez made six points, and Preston Guinn also put six points in the book.
The 7th Grade B Team defeated the Ingram Warriors 28-10.
