Texas conservation guru J. David Bamberger is coming to Marble Falls Sunday, Aug. 1, from 3-6 p.m. for a book signing event hosted by Museo Benini. The event features three books about Bamberger’s epic life and work as an activist, entrepreneur and founder of Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve. The newest publication, My Stories, All True: J.
Blanco could soon have an interim city administrator. Councilors voted to enter into negotiations to name Kelly Kuenstler interim city administrator at a lengthy July 13 meeting. She has served as a consultant to the city since this summer. Kuentsler opened her consultancy firm, City Hall Essentials, in January of this year.
Unemployment rates are up throughout the region, including in Blanco County. Blanco County unemployment rose from 3.4 percent in May to 4.1 percent in June according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission. Even though the county’s unemployment rate went up 0.7 percent, it still leads the nine-county Rural Capital Area of Central Texas region. The unemployment rate in the region rose from 4.3 percent in May to 4.9 percent in June.

Blanco’s students turned in strong STAAR scores in many areas despite pandemic and winter storm-related challenges, with the district outperforming or equaling the state averages on nearly 91 percent of the testing areas. “Our scores turned out well, and I’m proud of what our students and staff members were able to accomplish during this crazy school year we had,” said BISD Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum.
Blanco County Commissioners approved requests from Lights Spectacular in Johnson City at Tuesday morning’s meeting. The commissioners approved a request for a fireworks show to be allowed the Friday after Thanksgiving. The Blanco Streetscape Committee will hold another special meeting on July 14 at 2 p. m. at the Byars Building, located at 308 Pecan Street in Blanco.
