The Blanco County Commissioners discussed reinstating the county-wide burn ban, but ultimately decided not to do so at this time. At their meeting Tuesday morning, they discussed growing incidents that would likely lead to a burn ban reinstatement soon. Blanco County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the nine-county Rural Capital Area of Central Texas, it was announced Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission. Blanco County’s unemployment rate for May was 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent in April. The region’s unemployment rate fell from 4.6 percent in April to 4.3 percent in May.
Community Resource Centers of Texas is introducing a new program to aid those with mobility needs. The Transportation Voucher Program will be used to provide free rides to people with disabilities, veterans, older adults ages 55 and up, those who are ill, and those who are experiencing financial difficulties. The American Legion Post 352 officers conducted a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, Monday, June 14, at the ESD 2 Fire Station. Members from BSA Scout Troop 497, Cub Scout Pack 497 and Girl Scout Troop 2104 participated in the ceremony.
After issues--some of which remain unresolved--arose with Kinder Morgan’s Permian Highway Pipeline, folks have wondered if there will be other pipelines running through the Blanco County in the years ahead. “Whether or not another pipeline comes through Blanco County is anyone’s guess,” said Blanco County Judge Brett Bray. “Other county judges tell me about the many pipelines crisscrossing their jurisdictions and that pipeline projects happen all the time.
The Blanco City Council tabled a work order for the wastewater treatment plant at a special called meeting Monday morning. Citizens Ann Ahrens and Ray Don Tilley asked the council to delay action on the item until the city’s water task force can look closer at the issue. Crowds flocked to Blanco as the Lavender Festival returned for its 16th year last weekend. After taking last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival returned in full bloom in 2021. Vendors of all kinds lined the historic square near the Old Blanco County Courthouse while large crowds visited the various tents and booths filled with lavender-themed goods and homemade wares of all kinds. The Blanco County News was honored with two awards from the Texas Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest, it was announced Saturday at the organization’s annual meeting in Denton. Blanco County News took fourth place among all weekly newspapers in the state in the “Online Live Coverage” category. BCN’s entry in the category was for first day of school photos posted throughout the day.

Results of the 2021 District 10 4-H Spring Roundup competitions were released recently, with 28 Blanco County 4-H members placing. In the Junior Share-the-Fun Musical/Instrumental category, Liberty Lemanski placed first playing Budapesto on cello and Autumn Vitallero placed second playing The First Noel on guitar.
