A Llano County jury of seven women and five men found Karra Trichele Allen guilty of murdering her husband, Brian Dean Allen, at their home in Bertram, on July 1, 2013. The decision was rendered Tuesday, June 2. Judge Allan Garrett presided over the trial in which District Attorney Sonny McAfee and Assistant District Attorney Peter Keim presented the State's case.
Victims of the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding that took place beginning on May 4, 2015 in parts of Texas may qualify for tax relief from the Internal Revenue Service. Following recent disaster declarations for individual assistance issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the IRS announced today that affected taxpayers in Texas will receive tax relief. The President has declared Harris, Hayes, and Van Zandt counties a federal disaster area.
There is so much in Proverbs that I used to not like to read it. Someone showed me there are 31 Proverbs, one for each day of the month, and she suggested I read it that way. I've never been able to consistently read one each day, but I have managed to get through all of them!
Stupid, lazy, slob; that does nothing but watch sports on TV, drinks beer, and whistles at scantly clad women. That's the image portrayed in your average sit-com these days of a father and husband. It is sad, and it is shameful. Fatherhood is a God given position of honor, responsibility, and leadership.
Two hillbillies, Rufus and Clarence had been enemies for years. All that separated them was a wide river. For years each man would go down to the bank and yell at each other promising that if they could swim they would swim the river and give the other beating. One year the Army Corps of Engineers built a bridge over the river.
The 2015 Blanco Spring Band Concert for the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade bands was held on Tuesday, June 2 at the BHS cafeteria. The fifth grade band played four selections, including a favorite, Let's Rock arranged by Michael Sweeney. The sixth grade band performed three musical selections, concluding with Firestorm by Rob Grice.
The 2015 Blanco Panther basketball camp was held at the BHS gym June 8 through June 11. High school girl's basketball coach, Stuart Schultz, and boy's basketball coach, Derrick Hernandez, taught the campers basic basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting. Assisting the coaches were Jamie McClinton, Tyler Schlinke, and Kendall Brock.
In loving memory of Janet Ruth Metcalf, was born October 31, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas and passed away on June 4, 2015 in Oklahoma. Janet was retired; she enjoyed quilting, sewing and crocheting. Her favorite holidays were Christmas and Thanksgiving. She graduated in 1972 from King High School in Corpus Christi.
Francis O. Wagner, 84, of Garland Texas died peacefully June 30, 2014. Francis was born to the late Beulah and Tom Wagner on March 10, 1930 in Blanco, Texas. She was an avid seamstress specializing in men's and women's clothing, and furniture re-upholstery. Francis was also a 30 year dedicated employee of Collins Radio, now known as Rockwell Collins, in Richardson Texas.
