Many years ago, I was running a multi-media company in the outdoors industry, and had opportunity to take my wife and two oldest children, three and five years old at the time, on a “business trip” to the upper reaches of the Amazon.
The bands played, people danced, enjoyed vendors, food and more at the Raise the Roof fundraiser for Twin Sisters Dance Hall over the weekend. The two-day event featured a barbecue and chili cook-off, live music, dancing, vendors, a dominoes tournament and more. There was even activities for the children, such as a petting zoo, art contest and more.

The commissioners approved an agreement to borrow $541,942 from Government Capital Corporation to purchase equipment and various services. The agreement sets the interest rate at 2.897 percent, and payments of $280,677.17 will be made in June 2022 and June 2023.

Organizers of the Wild Game Dinner are looking forward to serving a delicious variety of game to a large crowd this Saturday, Oct. 2nd, at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City.
A few items of this year’s fare will be fried Axis, wild game chili, whole roasted hog, fresh homemade sausage, fried shrimp, catfish, pork cutlets, brisket, gumbo, jambalaya, along with bacon wrapped quail.

The city’s request for assistance for award of the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CLFRF) has been approved. Our city administrator worked hard on this grant for us and it paid off!
The city was awarded $256,582.35 and will be receiving roughly $250,000 more later. The council has not decided on how the funds will be spent yet.
Leo Osterhout celebrated his 100th birthday on Friday, Sept. 17. He is a resident of Henry House in Blanco and was joined in the celebration by his son, Danny Osterhout, who is also pictured. He was born in Independence, Kansas, a century ago. Osterhout is a veteran of World War II, joining the Navy in January 1942, soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The Blanco Classic Car Show took place on Saturday at the Blanco State Park. With no chance of rain and blue skies above it was a great day for the car show.
The annual event didn’t take place in 2019 or even this year in May, which is the month when the show is regularly scheduled, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs and military veterans from across Blanco County will parade past St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 218 Pittsburg in Blanco, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29.
The event is for a special blessing in celebration of St. Michael, the patron saint of first responders and the military.
