The 2018-19 Mason Cowgirl basketball season is less than one week away from tip-off. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches preseason poll has been released and the Cowgirls are ranked 4th among Class AA schools. You will be able to meet all the Mason Cowgirl basketball teams on Monday, November 5th at 6:30pm in the high school gym.
Friday night was Mason's Homecoming, and the Punchers gave the hometown fans a decisive victory to go along with all the halftime festivities. In the first quarter of the game, Mason quickly and easily set the tone of the game. Just a few minutes into the game, Chandler Buntyn made the first score on a 51-yard run.
Last week, the Punchers traveled to a neutral spot to play Alpine. It was a tough game and the Punchers played hard. The final score was 66-22, but the Punchers never quit with a late score by Grady Wallace.
The JV Purple took on San Angelo Central freshman team last week. The Punchers came out on top with a 37-0 victory. Offensive standouts were Hayden Harding, Milam Mayfield, and Michael Longoria. Defensive standouts were Jadon Scantlin, Hugo Martinez, and Jack Mayfield. This win gives the JV Purple a 5-3 record on the season.
Mason ISD is accepting nominations for the Gifted and Talented program. All nominations are due by 3:30 p.m. this Friday, November 2. If you would like to nominate your child for the Gifted and Talented program, please go to Mason Elementary/Junior High for the necessary paperwork. The Mason Youth Football team is heading to the super bowl in Llano, Texas this Saturday at 12 p.m. where they will take on Llano's team for the ultimate prize!... Please everyone come out and support these little guys ..we will need all the cheers from Mason since we are on Llanos home turf!
After a long and stressful week of flooding, both the communities of Junction and Mason were ready for the escapism of some Friday night football. Though the Eagles would lose 41-7, the score doesn't reflect the good game that the Junction team played on Friday night. Junction took the opening kickoff, but the Puncher defense would establish their dominance early.
The JV Purple played at home against San Saba last week. The Punchers won by the final score of 41-0. Ty Spencer scored on the Punchers first possession with a 24 yard run. JJ Ake scored on a pass from Mathew Kerr from 32 yards to make the score 14-0. Jose Valdez scampered to a 18 yard touchdown making it 20-0.
