The Jr High golfers have half their season under way. Starting after spring break, the Punchers and Cowgirls are well on their way to another fine season. Because of the lack of 2A schools offering golf, we have had to look to the larger schools for competition. On April 21, we started our season in Lampasas.
The Board of Trustees of Mason ISD is pleased to introduce John Schumacher to the community of Mason. Mr. Schumacher was recently named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools and comes to Mason with many years of experience. For the past two years, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Johnson City ISD.
The Mason Cowgirl softball team defeated Hermleigh Lady Cardinals on Wednesday 10-6 for the Bi-district championship. The Cowgirls came out strong with their bats scoring 5 runs in the first 2 innings of the game. The Cowgirls racked up 17 hits in the game with 4 doubles and 1 triple. Not only did the Cowgirls get the job done on offense but they also did a great job on defense.
It’s that time of year again! Time to renew your community band calendar. This year we unfortunately are having to increase our price a little bit. After years of seeing the production costs rise and our profit margin shrink we have decided to increase the price on the calendars. This year the calendars will cost $10 each.
We invite the entire community to visit our Book Fair in the Mason Elementary/Jr. High Library. You will get the chance to purchase best sellers, Newbery and Caldecott Medal-winning books, chapter books, picture books and hundreds of other items only available at the Scholastic Book Fair. We also invite you to support the “Give the Gift of Reading” program at the Book Fair.
On April 1st, Mason High School reached a milestone point in its development of a grape growing curriculum for students interested in this rapidly expanding Texas industry. Justin Scheiner, Assistant Professor and Extension Viticulture Specialist & Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M University has been working closely with local grape grower, Dan McLaughlin, and with the instructor, Lance Rasch.
With the district tournament finishing on Wednesday and the regional tournament starting a week later, it was a hectic time for the Mason Tennis Team. However, it was time well spent as thirteen of the sixteen regional qualifiers advanced to the state meet to be played May 16-17 in College Station. Mason totally dominated at the district tournament as they won first and second in every division but one at both JV and varsity levels.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team won the 2A Region IV Championship on Saturday, April 23rd, in Corpus Christi. The achievement marks the first time in MHS history that the Academic team has won the whole regional tournament. In addition, by placing among the top three competitors in their events, 12 students advanced to compete in the UIL State Tournament that will be held in late May. The Mason schools were transformed for Puncher College Week. We decorated the hallways, doors and lockers in anticipation of the big event. There were posters, banners, flags and pennants from just about every college and technical school you have ever heard of! Students in grades PK-8 viewed a Powerpoint to introduce possible choices and reasons for continuing with their education after high school.
Rep. Austin Habecker, a junior at Mason High School, competed at the State UIL Congress Meet held in the State Capitol in Austin on January 11-13. UIL Congress is an event that is comprised of two days of debate, with students following parliamentary procedure to debate on proposed bills. The students debate for a full seven hours on the first day of competition, in order to earn a chance to compete for the championship in the final chamber on the second day of competition.
