SAN ANTONIO –The Junior Market Lamb show contest was held on February 16, 2017 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Aspen Martin of Mason, Texas was awarded Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb and received a $10,000 scholarship. She also won champion medium wool. Martin is a member of the Mason County 4-H. Martin’s family is heavily involved in the show industry.
4H members have been practicing weekly for District Contest in Consumer Decision Making. The contest was held on Friday, February 17 at the Spur Arena in San Angelo, TX. Twenty-two students participated in this year’s VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) an UIL opportunity, held on February 11th in San Saba, Texas two weeks ago.Mason’s High School Art Teacher, Danika Smith took a bus of 22 students early Saturday morning for the competition. Each student had an 8-15 minute interview with a juror when they were asked questions about their art piece.

Mason County 4H members did a great job showing their livestock at the 2017 San Angelo Stock Show. There were 21 4H members who entered 60 head to show. The Mighty Mason Puncher Band will have a concert open to the public next Monday, February 27th, at 7 p.m. The High School Band will be the only band performing and they will play their music for the UIL Concert Contest. The pieces will be “Monterey March” by LaPlante, “Alpine Meadow” by Hodges, and “Fireball!” by Beck.
   Mason Junior High participated in the TCEA Area Robotics Competition on Saturday, January 21st in Ballinger, TX. We had four teams qualify to compete in the area competition and placed out of 12 competing teams.    Placing 3rd was Phoebe, the Selfie Bot,the team includes Karli Bauer, Eliza Cope, and Abigail Wallace.
   The Mason CX Team won the district title last week. Teams competing were: Ethan Powell & Kate Gillespie, Cason Dudney & Jenna Johnson, Raegan Palacio & Joshua Fluhmann and Grace Chapman & Jackson Chapman.    This year’s Resolution: “The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.” was effectively debated amongst the 4 teams.
