Frank Jerry Gamel was born to Frank James Gamel and Hazel Richardson Gamel in Grit, Texas, on January 17, 1929. He passed from this world in the early hours of September 8, 2019, at home as he had wished. He grew up on the family farm in Katemcy, Texas. He attended the early years of school at the Peters Prairie School in Camp Air; and then, the Mason County Schools consolidated and he attended Mason High School, where he graduated in 1946.
Dr. Emilio Mutis Duplat went to heaven on September 6, which was his 87th birthday. He was born in Cúcuta, Colombia, to Arturo and Teresa Mutis. He was the youngest Geology Dean at the National University in Bogotá, Colombia. He married the love of his life, Cecilia García de Mutis, in Colombia. They were married for about 50 years.
Dortha Hurley White passed away Monday, August 19, 2019. She was born February 12, 1920, in Katemcy, Texas to Arthur and Myrtle Hurley. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard White, brother Gordon Hurley, and two sisters Polly Bode and Wanda Jacques. Terry E. McEwen, 69, of Brownwood, TX, passed away on August 28, 2019, in Dallas, TX from complications of pancreatic cancer. Born May 28,1950, in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of Raleigh O. McEwen, Jr. and Eileen Parish McEwen. He attended school in Macclenny, FL and Webster, FL. He graduated from Cook High School, Adel, GA, in 1968.
A Man on a Mission… Mickey Eddins didn’t want folks to make a “big to-do” about him or his western accessory business, but that’s simply too bad. “If he hadn’t wanted a ‘big to-do’ made about what he’s done, he shouldn’t a’done ‘em,” said one of the 400-plus guests crowded into the M&F showroom recently to honor him and Linda--his wife of 59 years--and their sons and families.
Hilda Ruth Larrimore, of Burnet, passed away on Monday, August 26, at the age of 86. Mrs. Larrimore is survived by her son Charles Eugene “Gene” Larrimore and wife Nan of Mason, two grandchildren; Jordan Larrimore and fiancé Stephanie Castillo of Kyle, and Amy Britt and husband Robby of Pflugerville. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard W.
David H. Behrens Sr. (Pop), 79, was born in Mason County Texas to Roscoe and Emma Behrens. He joyfully joined his Lord on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019. We celebrateD Pop’s life on Monday, August 26th, 2019, at 11:00 am, at Ft. McKavett Cemetery in Ft. McKavett, TX. Pop’s Pastor, Tony Valdez of Edmund Blvd Baptist Church, officiated.
Calvin Emil Wissemann passed away from cancer in Coldspring, TX at the home of his sister. He was born July 3, 1930 to Emil and Anna Wendel Wissemann in Grit, Tx. After graduation from Mason High School, Calvin enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Everglades as a Metalsmith Fireman during the Korean war from 1951-1954.
On August 13, 2019, Arthur Gerald Geistweidt left this life and entered into heaven’s gates. Arthur Gerald “Gerry” Geistweidt was born on January 20, 1948, to Arthur Frank and Anna Marie Geistweidt. A fourth generation Mason resident, Gerry was born in San Antonio and raised in Mason until he graduated from Mason High School in 1966. In 1970, he graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government.
Vernon August Henry Evers or “Cowboy” passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2019, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 95. He was born on August 27, 1923, in Castell, TX, to Frank Joseph and Minnie (Heine) Evers, the fourth of four children, a descendant of German settlers. Vernon resided in Llano County for almost all of his life.
