Two Mason High School seniors, Grace Chapman and Ryli Ruffin, competed at the State UIL Congress Meet held in the State Capital in Austin on January 8-10.
UIL Congress is an event that is comprised of two days of debate, with students following parliamentary procedure to debate on proposed bills. The students debate for a full seven hours on the first day of competition, in order to earn a chance to compete for the championship in the final chamber on the second day of competition.

The Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library presents the of celebrated acoustic duo Hungrytown. Last July, they returned from a successful six-and-a-half-month tour of the US (including Mason), UK and New Zealand, covering over 16,000 miles on American highways alone. They are currently on a four-month tour of the American south and southwest.
Vermonters Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, who make up Hungrytown, have been touring professionally for nearly 15 years.
Recently the CTEC Operation Round-Up Board of Directors approved several grants for local community organizations as well as a family in need. A $3,000 grant was awarded to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fredericksburg, which provides simple, decent and affordable housing for people in need. Their goal is to eliminate substandard housing by building and promoting high quality, affordable housing.
Back in 2016, the University of Interscholastic League decided to begin offering the opportunity for cheerleading teams across the state to display their sideline activities in a competitive environment. The competition consists of four different events, much like a track meet. The events include Fight Song, Crowd Leading (Cheer), Band Dance, and Game Day.
Mason, Texas- The Third Annual Mason Chamber Music Festival will take place the weekend of April 5th – 8th and is sure to be the gem of a full weekend of festivities including the Spring Arts Fest in Mason, Texas. Each year the Odeon Preservation Association hosts a Cocktail Performance Fundraiser to raise funds in support of the Chamber Music Festival in our town.

The Mason Puncher Band will be having it’s annual auction this Saturday, January 27th, in the band hall at the high school. It will be broadcast live over the air on KHLB 102.5.

It’s stock show week! The Mason County Livestock Show & Expo is this Friday and Saturday, January 5-6. We invite everyone to join us for a great event featuring talented and hard-working youth of Mason.
Friday’s activities will kick off with an Exhibitor Breakfast at 8 a.m., followed by the Opening Ceremony at 9 a.m.
The Big Hunt this year will be held the 12th and 13th of January. The hunt will follow basically the same format as the previous hunts.
The venue has been changed this year. We will use the Community Building at the Fair Grounds rather than the Civic Center. A longer regular deer season had us move it to a week later, and since the Stock Show will be finished, we changed the location.
