The Mason High School UIL Academics team had several results at the 2018 State Academic Meet on Friday, May 4th. Sloan Townsend medalled three times on the day to lead the team.
Sloan Townsend, a junior, had already performed the impressive feat of advancing to State in three writing events. She topped that achievement by managing to place at State in all three events.
The Mason High School production of scenes from “Rabbit Hole” took the stage at 10 p.m. in the Round Rock Performing Arts Center on May 4, 2018. After starting the day at 5 a.m. to allow for required meetings, navigating through Austin traffic on a school bus from location to location, plus holding extreme focus in tech rehearsal, the company proved its mettle, telling a solid, believable, truthful, family story that touched hearts.

At the end of Wednesday’s play, the Punchers were tied for second place and the Cowgirls were in fourth place. Not much sleep took place Wednesday night thinking about what needed to be done the following day. The wind changed directions now coming from the North. The air temperature dropped 20 degrees in the morning.
Mason Young Life is having it’s 7th annual car wash to help send kids to camp Saturday, May 5th on the South side of the square. As you can see in the picture we will wash almost anything! Please bring your cars, trucks, tractors, emergency vehicles and and bicycles out and we’ll give them a good rinsing.
All we ask for is a donation to help send over 20 kids to Frontier Ranch near Buena Vista, Colorado from June 3nd to the 10th.
Central Texas Electric Cooperative (CTEC) will be collecting food at each of their four office locations in Fredericksburg, Kingsland, Llano and Mason. Individuals that bring in a donation will receive a free koozie.
In Fredericksburg, CTEC is working with the Hill Country Community Needs Council in their Food 4 Kids program.
The Mason High School UIL Academics Team won the 2A Region IV Championship on Saturday, April 14th, in Corpus Christi. This was the Mason’s third year in a row to win the contest. In addition, 10 of Mason’s students advanced to compete at the UIL State Tournament later this spring.
Starting the day, the Current Events Team of Zachary Norman, Zane Shoemaker, Pablo Lopez, and James Potts placed 1st overall in their contest.
Mason once again dominated the Regional tennis tournament in Corpus Christi winning four of the five divisions, winning second place in four divisions and third place in three others. Every player that participated in the regional tournament for Mason brought home some hardware. Mason won the boys singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles events while also placing second in boys doubles, mixed doubles and girls singles.
The Mason County Cancer Benefit will be hosting their annual fundraiser and Chili Cook-Off this Saturday, April 28th at the city park.
Opening ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. with the community wide “Walk Across Texas” 5k finale to follow at 1:30. Sign up for the washer pitching tournament at 3 and begin play at 3:30.
