On May 13th, the Boys headed to the State Golf Tournament in Austin. Sophomores; Aaron Reardon, Kyle Montoya, seniors; Matt Finn, Stan Stultz and Emanuel Martinez all took part in a marvelous journey. The air was full of excitement for we were among the top 12 teams in the state.
Local photo historian Don Day will present a new program in the Stribling Room of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, 410 Post Hill Street, on June 5 at 6:00. It's titled "Mason through the Vintage Lens," interpreting Mason County's people and places with vintage style. The Mason Tennis Team and its 12 state qualifiers traveled to College Station on Thursday and Friday to compete in the State UIL Tennis Tournament. Mason would capture four state championships and three 2nd place finishes by the end of play on Friday adding to the 92 previous state championships.
St. Joseph Catholic Church parishioners honored its MHS seniors at Mass on Sunday, May 20. The seniors were introduced and presented gifts. A reception was held in the Parish Hall after Mass. Congratulations Class of 2018. We are very proud of all of you and wish you the best in the future!
The April 4th article submitted by Riata to the Mason County News indicated that Riata had passed a motion to acquire a “wildflower grant for the central area” of Heritage Park. The article should have stated, according to official minutes of the meeting, that Riata would “look into” a grant for adding wildflowers to Heritage Park with permission of the County Commissioners.
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was founded as a day for those who have died in our nation’s service. Here in Mason County, members of the American Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteers, place more than 700 American flags on the graves of Mason veterans, located in more than twenty-five cemeteries throughout the county.
The Mason Punchers defeated Charlotte 2-0 on Friday in Kerrville in the Class 2A regional quarterfinal round as Emanuel Martinez and Otto Wofford combined to throw a no hitter. The pitching was strong on both sides. The Punchers struck out nine. Emanuel Martinez got the start for the Punchers. He surrendered zero runs and zero hits over six innings, striking out six and walking zero.
That north wind is blowing in notorious a tumbleweed, Tumbleweed Smith to be exact. He first performed in Mason at the Mason Chamber of Commerce banquet to a packed house in February 2011. He has aired interviews on his syndicated radio show with some of our memorable members of the county.
FREE FOOD!!!! This summer in the Mason ISD cafeteria. ALL children 18 yrs and younger are welcome and encouraged to come eat Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast will be served from 7:15 until 8 a.m., Monday thru Thursday. Lunch from 11 a.m. until noon, Monday thru Thursday. The child does not have to be enrolled in the Mason schools to come eat.
Mason County Habitat for Humanity’s live and silent auctions will include works of art, custom designed jewelry, overnight getaways and much more this year!
