Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age” whose mission is food, fellowship, and the pursuit of an good lunch, are having one of the highlights of their oh-so-fun-filled year - our May 9th salad lunch (11:30 AM starting time) and the often-imitated, never-duplicated, and eagerly-anticipated tacky jewelry exchange. The Mason Soiree is only 3 weeks away! This will be a special event created to promote the wine growers, farmers, craftsmen, musicians and businesses of Mason. The event will be comprised of two elements; a wine dinner and live concert. Those who choose to attend the exquisite Mason County wine-paired dinner will also enjoy reserved seating for the concert.
Trudy Irwin is a new volunteer at the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. She comes on Wednesday mornings and helps out with any and everything. Trudy grew up in San Antonio and graduated from the University of Texas with an art degree. There she met her husband Jess, who is an attorney and also a UT alumnus.
The 12th Annual Lamplight Designs Art Competition and Exhibition will open on Friday, May 6th at Topaz Confections Bakery. Mason High School art students will be exhibiting works reflecting a range of medium including painting, drawing, and mixed media. The exhibition will be on display for one week with a closing reception and awards presentation on Friday, May 13th from 5:30-6:30.
This is such a busy time of year for everyone, but it is especially busy for the students of Mason High School. We have so many events between now and the end of school and there just aren’t enough days to have them all. We are also giving so many awards to such hard working students of MHS, that we don’t have enough room to seat everyone in our cafeteria.
As another successful year of FFA is drawing to a close, the Mason Chapter Officers will be holding the annual FFA banquet on Thursday, May 12, in the school cafeteria. Admission is free and Fajitas will be served starting at 5:30 P.M. and the banquet will begin at 6:00. Everyone is welcome to attend and recognize the hard work and numerous achievements FFA students have accomplished throughout the year.
The Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country will hold its final art show, “The Last Picture Show,” on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, 2016. The Gala Opening Reception for the show will be on Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Works by member artists will be on display at the Eckert Civic Center, 1024 McKinley Avenue in Mason.
Hill Country Memorial will host a free ear, nose and throat (ENT) health presentation on Tues., May 10 at Nacho’s Café in Mason. A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6:00 p.m., with a presentation to follow. Nacho’s Café is located at 621 Fort McKavit St. Those concerned about adult or pediatric ENT health issues are invited to meet HCM ENT specialist, Tracy Byerly, MD, and family nurse practitioner Carrie Culpepper.
Mason County Habitat for Humanity coordinators are happy to present the “Hye Society Wine Tasting Tour” as one of many fantastic live auction items for this year’s event on Saturday, May 14th. Chauffeur driven round-trip transportation will be provided for six people from the Mason Square to Hye any Saturday between August 1st & December 1st.
