KERRVILLE, TX - SCIMITAR-HORNED ORYX in Texas will be the topic of the Monday, May 23rd Texas Master Naturalist Hill Country Chapter monthly meeting. Colleen Gardner, Executive Director at Selah Bamberger Ranch Preserve will be the speaker. She has worked closely with David Bamberger since 1999.
David Bamberger sought to buy the worst piece of ranchland he could find in the Hill Country in 1969, with the specific intention of restoring it back to functional health.

Dawn Turner of Brownwood will be giving a program on “Raising Monarch Butterflies.” Dawn has raised Monarch butterflies for over 25 years in her kindergarden classrooms.
Students from high schools across Texas will gather over four days to launch 80 rockets up to 13,000 feet and past the sound barrier, as part of Rockets 2016, May 12-15, at the Willow City Fire Station and Stewart’s Hillview Ranch, located north of Fredericksburg off the Willow City Loop.
The four-day event is the culmination of the SystemsGo program, now offered in 42 high schools across the state.
Learning more about COLOR is the focus of this summer’s Youth ART CAMP. This will be the 4th year of Ms Bridget’s Youth Art Camp.
Young artists range from 5 through about 12; although we do have adults and even families from 7 to 75 that sign up for the evening class.
Individuals interested in learning about the role colonoscopy screenings play in detecting and preventing colorectal cancer are invited to a free “Scope it Out” presentation and discussion at Nacho’s Café on Thurs., May 19.
A complimentary dinner will be provided at 6 p.m. with a presentation to follow.
General surgeon Jay Stauffer, MD, will lead the presentation.
