With all the horrid headlines that we read these days, it was a privilege to ride along with one of the six deputies that patrol our streets at night in Llano County while the rest of us peacefully sleep. Mostly I prayed and held on for dear life. I prayed for the six deputies with each call that came through the radio -- and for our safety when we had to respond very quickly.
Regional differences can be an interesting thing. Have you ever been in a conversation with someone, and they said something you didn’t understand at all? A couple years ago, a friend informed me that her family referred to the remote control as the “TV Box.” That was definitely a new one for me.
Dear Editor, I am asking the council members to again fund the $16,000 to the Llano County Library for the purchase of books for only this city library. The books purchased with this money stays in the Llano Library, so you can see the benefit is for the citizens of the City of Llano. Paul Paxton
Dear Editor, We the people who use County Road 408 in the Valley Springs Subdivision appreciate Commissioner Jerry Don Moss and the Llano County Road Department for the fine paving job of CR 408 from Hwy. 71 at Valley Spring to the San Saba County line and one half mile of the Valley Ranch Subdivision. The job was done with precision and is quality work.
Dear Editor, My husband and I have been sick and in the emergency room and/or hospital many times in the past year, and we just want to say how much we appreciate and how proud we are to have the Llano Scott & White Hospital here. We have received excellent care from everyone there.
This time, it counts. Each year as the Major League Baseball All-Star game gears up, we hear that utter nonsensical phrase left to us as part of former commissioner Bud Selig’s legacy. Each time I hear it, I’d like to chunk something in ole Bud’s direction as I walk away muttering. As you read these words, this year’s mid-summer classic is over, and some league now has home field advantage for the sport’s crowning moment, the World Series.
Dear Editor, I have been a citizen of Llano County for nearly 40 years. I have resided at the same location in the county. I have had occasion to ask assistance of the sheriff’s (office) a few times and been taken care of in a timely manner. We need our deputies in the outlying county.
I literally started laughing as soon as I saw the notice on Facebook from the Llano County emergency management office. Granted, I don’t think most warnings from that office elicit laughter, but memories growing up made this one quite comical to me. After all, they never met Sadie, the amazing firework chasing dog. Most animals are scared of fireworks, and should be kept inside or in a safe place to make sure they don’t go missing when they become scared of the loud noises or strange lights ...
Dear Editor, I would like to reply to the response that was given by M.D. Harwell regarding the transgender issues. My goal was to open a conversation about this subject and obviously we have. I have had many people come up to me since the story first ran, thanking me for bringing this subject to a small town.
Dear Editor, Last week, the U.S. Senate passed S. 2943, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which currently includes a provision forcing American daughters to sign up for the Selective Service, making them eligible for a future military draft. Women and men have equal natural rights, but equality doesn’t mean ignoring the biological differences between men and women that are relevant to accomplishing military missions. Over an extensive 9-month Marine Corps’ Gender Integration Ta ...
